BREAKDOWN

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
Character Description:
Assistant Director: Male, 5''6-5'9 Strong Comedic actor, 2nd to the Director, has great sense of humor and creates the lighter moments in the show.

Script for the audition:
(To audience) Even though what you're seeing today is a dry run, and not an actual shoot, the stunts themselves are all very real, as is the risk involved in performing them. The cast and crew are trained professionals who will be showing you a lot of incredible stunts, as well as the detailed preparation that goes into making them happen. And one of those details is the use of extras. (Casting Director comes in with extras - they are costumed in turbans and robes) You all look terrific. I didn't know they wore Reeboks in Cairo. (To Casting Director) I sure hope this works. (To extras) Okay everybody, the first thing I need you to do is act like a crowd. (They all huddle together like a confused mob). Cut!! Act like a straight line again. Okay, let me give you a little better direction. I want everybody to react at the same time. Ready? You're happy, you're terrified, you're standing on hot coals. . . now your cookin'.

CASTING DIRECTOR
Character Description:
Casting Director: Female, 5'4” - 5'8”; Strong emcee, cheerleader to audience participants.

Script for the audition:
Hi everybody, welcome to the show. My name is (your name) and I’m the Casting Director. Part of my job is the casting of extras. Extras are a very important part of a production. They help bring a scene to life. Normally, I would go to an agency but today, I’d like to cast some of you as extras in our show. Sometimes certain extras are called upon to perform specific tasks. These people are known as featured extras. They could be asked to do anything from juggling to fainting to screaming at the top of their lungs. Now since we have a lot of action sequences in this show, the featured extras I’m going to need have to be a couple of real good screamers.

DIRECTOR
Character Description:
Director: Mature Male 5'10 to 6'2 Strong, commanding scripted actor; is in charge of entire film
crew.

Script for the audition:

DIRECTOR
AS YOU’VE JUST SEEN, EXPLOSIVES CAN BE ONE OF THE MOST DANGEROUS THINGS
A STUNT PERSON HAS TO DEAL WITH. AND WITH A STUNT LIKE THAT, YOU DON’T
HAVE THE BENEFIT OF HINDSIGHT – YOU BETTER GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.

LET ME INTRODUCE YOU TO THE MAN RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT LAST EFFECT. HE’S
RESPONSIBLE FOR THE BULLET HITS, THE FIRE EFFECTS AND ALL THE EXPLOSIONS
ON THE SET. HEY JEFF, WHY DON’T YOU TAKE A MOMENT AND EXPLAIN ABOUT THE
DANGERS OF WORKING WITH EXPLOSIVES.

JEFF
(looking lost and uncomfortable)
WHEN YOU WORK WITH EXPLOSIVE. IT’S DANGEROUS. THANK YOU.

DIRECTOR
THANKS FOR THAT VALUABLE INSIGHT, JEFF. KIDS, STAY IN SCHOOL.
LET ME SEE IF I CAN ELABORATE ON THAT A LITTLE BIT. WORKING WITH
EXPLOSIVES IS ONE OF THE MOST DANGEROUS THINGS A STUNT PERFORMER HAS
TO DEAL WITH. BUT I BET YOU WOULD BE SURPRISED TO FIND OUT THAT MORE
STUNT PEOPLE GET HURT DURING A SIMPLE FIGHT ROUTINE THAN BY
PERFORMING ELABORATE STUNTS LIKE THE ONES YOU JUST SAW. THAT’S BECAUSE
WHEN I CHOREOGRAPH A STUNT FIGHT MY GUYS ARE THROWING PUNCHES AND
SWINGING AXE HANDLES WITH THE SAME INTENSITY AS IF YOU WERE REALLY
HITTING SOMEONE…BUT YOU HAVE TO MISS BY JUST A COUPLE INCHES. EACH
MOVE IS CAREFULLY CHOREOGRAPHED AND MUST TO BE COMMITTED TO MEMORY
LIKE A LINE OF DIALOGUE.

IT TAKES TIMING, PRACTICE AND COORDINATION, TO REALLY MAKE IT LOOK LIKE
YOU’RE HITTING SOMEONE. WAIT A MINUTE. I’LL SHOW YOU WHAT WE MEAN.
