Opening in DC: March 21st, 2018
Closing: March 25th, 2018

USNAVI: Male, 24 - 30, Hispanic. Our hero, and the owner of De La Vega’s Bodega - the heart of the neighborhood. Hard working, selfless, positive, and generous. Romantic but awkward, kind, joyful, charismatic. Everybody’s best friend, incredibly proud of his Dominican heritage, and protective of Abuela. Strong actor, excellent rapper and a good mover.

NINA: Female, 18- 23 Hispanic. A freshman at Stanford, burdened by the pressures of making a living and attending a top tier university. Smart and incredibly hard on herself. Lives in fear of being a disappointment to her family. Too proud to ask for help. Appealing, attractive, ambitious and, above all, warm.

KEVIN: Male, 40 - 55, Hispanic. Nina’s father. A family man. Quick to act. Hard working, focused, driven, and very proud. Stubborn and hot tempered at times, but does everything out of love. Protective of his business and those he loves, wary of outsiders, and desperate to be the best man and father he can be.

CAMILLA: Female, 40-55, Hispanic. Nina’s mother. Cool-headed, bides her time as others fight around her. When she does speak, people pay attention. The eternal hostess, extremely hard working, proud, wants the world for her daughter.

BENNY: Male, 22-30, African American. Responsible, proud, and hard-working young man. Professional, and driven to be the best he can be. An outsider despite his best efforts to join the latino community. Charismatic, attractive, a good friend and a romantic at heart. Extremely respectful, joyful, funny, and kind.

VANESSA: Female, 18- 25, Hispanic. Strong, intelligent, attractive. A dreamer, desperate to escape The Heights and her alcoholic family. Has a hard time seeing past her own problems at times. She yearns so much for a different life that she does not appreciate what’s in front of her. Hard working, edgy, restless.

SONNY: Male, 18+ **must be able to play 15**, Hispanic. Usnavi’s cousin, and looks to Usnavi as a father figure. Lively and sassy, ambitious, naive, and passionate. A scrappy flirt, the charming jokester of the bodega. Protective of his family and community.

ABUELA CLAUDIA: Female, 64-75, Hispanic. The matriarch of the neighborhood, and everybody’s “Grandmother”. Generous, kind, and maternal. Wise, hard-working, strong, selfless, and beloved. Her own health never a priority, always thinking of others and their welfare over her own. Warm, comforting, and always seeing the positive in everyone.

DANIELA: Female, 25- 35, Hispanic. Owner of Daniela’s Salon. Savvy, quick witted, brassy and outspoken. Gossip queen of the neighborhood, but always well intentioned. Upbeat, generous, judgy, but ultimately a good friend. Fun, the life of the party and the leader of the ladies of the neighborhood.

CARLA: Female, 20 - 28, Hispanic. Hairdresser at Daniela’s salon. Naive, innocent, and friendly. Not the brightest, and constantly falling for jokes. Daniela’s sidekick both in and out of the salon. She’s funny, brassy, and upbeat.

GRAFFITI PETE: Male, 18-23, Any Ethnicity. Graffiti artist and the nemesis of Usnavi. Outspoken and scrappy, a harmless neighborhood troublemaker. A pain day-to-day, but a protector of the neighborhood in its time of need. Friendly, outgoing, positive, and creative. A true artist under his hoodlum appearance.

PIRAGUA GUY 30-40, Male, Hispanic. Kind, bright, and always smiling. Upbeat and jovial. He brings the rhythm of the islands to the neighborhood.
