Please prepare 2 contrasting one-minute monologues or a one monologue and a one minute song if auditioning for Next To Normal. Please bring a headshot and resume. BREAKDOWN

Equity encourages everyone participating in the auditions to wear a two-ply cloth face mask, surgical mask, singer’s mask or respirator (N95, KN95 or KF94). Single-ply face masks, gaiters and bandanas

Equity encourages members to prepare for their audition prior to arriving at the audition venue, to the

commander-in-chief out of trouble. Selina Fillinger's brilliant, all-female farce POTUS Or, Behind Every
Great Dumbass are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive, is a riotous comedy about the women in
charge of the man in charge of the free world.

Seeking:

Harriet – she/her; late 40s-60s; any ethnicity; chief of staff; a political bulldog who has chosen every
aspect of her life, appearance, and personality in service of her career; a sexless and humorless
middle-aged woman who lives and dies by the polls; starts the play at a seven and skyrockets from
there; everything is a means to the end.

Jean - she/her; late 40s-60s; any ethnicity; press secretary; a hawk in a turtleneck; a high-strung,
quick-witted woman who can handle any pressroom and sterilize any scandal; a single working mother
whose pristine life is threatened only by her knee-weakening attraction to disastrous sexual partners -
one, in particular; Harriet’s more polished and more tactful counterpart; think CJ from West Wing, but
with more bite, cynicism, and learned paranoia.

Stephanie - she/her; 20s-30s; any ethnicity; presidential secretary; an obedient and diminutive
millennial, terrified of failure and perpetually on the edge of a nervous breakdown; deeply brilliant, just
crippled by her own imposter syndrome; so much potential energy and rage just waiting to be set free.

Chris - she/her; 30s-50s; black; a journalist; overburdened, under-slept, postpartum, newly divorced,
on the brink of irrelevancy; a dogged reporter with much to gain and everything to lose.

Bernadette - she/her; late 30s-60s; white; president's sister; a total trash fire; strife and mayhem; a
coked-up tornado with raw sexual charisma, fiery temper, and fantastic sense of humor; Jean's
kryptonite.

Margaret – she/her; late 40s-70s; black; the first lady; an impeccable combination of high fashion,
corporate experience, and legal savvy; regal, sophisticated, brimming with bitterness and pent-up
rage; goes for the jugular.

Dusty - she/her; 20s-30s; any ethnicity; president's plaything; a glowing, curious, sex-positive girl with
a multitude of skills and a bright future! Loves civic duty! Loves democracy! Determined to make the
world better!

The Ultimate Christmas Show (Abridged): By Reed Martin & Austin Tichenor

Welcome to the Annual Holiday Variety Show and Christmas Pageant at St. Everybody’s Non-
Denominational Universalist Church, where all faiths are welcome because we’ll believe anything. But there’s a problem: None of the acts scheduled to perform have arrived, so the three church members
are pressed into service to perform the entire Variety Show and Christmas Pageant by themselves. An
irreverent yet heartwarming trip through the holidays, The Ultimate Christmas Show (Abridged) is
festive, funny, physical, family fun as these Three Wise Guys send up and celebrate our favorite
holiday traditions.

All three characters should have a deep understanding of comedic timing, physical comedy, and can
hold a tune.

Matt - Any gender, any age, any ethnicity; Matt represents gift-giving. Simple and one-track-minded.

Austin - Any gender, any age, any ethnicity; Austin represents family and togetherness. A welcoming
and boisterous spirit.

Dad's an architect; Mom rushes to pack lunches and pour cereal; their daughter and son are bright,
wise-cracking teens, appearing to be a typical American family. And yet their lives are anything but
normal because the mother has been battling bipolar disorder for 16 years. Next to Normal takes
audiences into the minds and hearts of each character, presenting their family's story with love,
sympathy and heart.

Seeking:

Diana - Female, 30s-40s, any ethnicity; A sexy and sharp housewife, who is manic-depressive and
delusional. She suffers from a worsening bipolar disorder that has been medicated for sixteen years. A
strong singer who capture the audience’s empathy and can cover the full emotional range that this role
requires, including a crucial and deadly sense of humor. Vocal Range (belt/mix to an E).

Gabe - Male, Almost 18, any ethnicity; Diana and Dan’s son, he is dashing, gentle, bright, and playful.
He can be both an angel and a demon to his mother, who idolizes him as a superhero. Vocal Range
(rock tenor to a B with a falsetto & comfortable mix).

Dan - Male, 30s-40s, any ethnicity; Diana’s husband and the father to Gabe and Natalie. An architect,
he is handsome and genuine, and perpetually frustrated. He provides a non-ending support for his
family as he fights to keep his wife’s mind and illness stable. A belabored, dedicated father, also with a
wicked sense of absurdist humor. Vocal range (high baritone/tenor to A).

Natalie - Female, 16, any ethnicity; Diana and Dan’s daughter. Compelling, attractive in her own
unique way, bright, contentious, and trying to be perfect. She is also a classically trained pianist who
takes refuge in the practice room. Vocal range (belt/mix to an E).

Henry - Male, 17, any ethnicity; Jazz musician, romantic, stoner, slacker, philosopher king. A
classmate of Natalie and eventually her boyfriend, he supports her during one of the roughest times in
her life. Vocal range (high baritone/tenor to an A).

Doctor Madden - Male, 30s, any ethnicity; On the young side of ageless. Diana’s doctor. He is
assured, charismatic, a rock star of psychiatry, on the young side of ageless. Vocal range (high
baritone/tenor to A with a rock sound).

When a major museum seeks to showcase diverse voices in its next exhibition, Gus, an artist, enlists
Vanessa's help to create an audacious new artistic persona of color to get him in the show. From
there it all spins out of control in this modern comedy, exploring white privilege, racial politics and the
fine line between appropriation and opportunity.

Seeking:

Gus – Male, late 20s-30s, White; A mildly successful minimalist painter, desperate for more. Earnestly
neurotic. Grad school friends with Jane. In a relationship with Tanner.

Vanessa – Female, late 20s-30s, African American. A mild mannered off-Broadway actress. Also
Balkone Townsend, a charismatic and self assured artist. Also Diana Ross. The Boss.

Jane – Female, 30s-early 40s, White; The newly appointed curator of a prestigious New York gallery.
Thriving in her liberal bubble? She is very enthusiastic and proud of her exhibit and by extension,
herself.

Tanner – Male, Late 20s-30s, Asian; English teacher at a public school. Easy going, but not a push
over. In a relationship with Gus.
