Equity actors for roles in HOLIDAYS WITH BING: A staged Christmas time radio program starring Bing Crosby and his famous friends (see breakdown).

We are seeking actors that can impersonate notable historic musicians/singers/performers from the 1940s and 1950s era. (examples: Judy Garland, The Nicholas Brothers, Anna May Wong, Lena Horne, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Ethel Merman, Pearl Bailey, Eartha Kitt, Burl Ives, Carmen Miranda, Katherine Hepburn, James Stewart, Mel Blanc, Lucille Ball, radio show Foley Artist, etc.)

Please slate with your name and impersonation performer.

Please prepare either Jingle Bells (tracks and key options can be found in this Dropbox folder: https://tinyurl.com/bdzh2t2p) OR a brief cut of a 1940s/50s accompanied standard song of your choice, in the impersonation style of the 1940s/50s celebrity of your choice. No a cappella please.

Structured as a vintage radio broadcast featuring guest appearances from many of Bing Crosby’s legendary friends, HOLIDAYS WITH BING features Artistry favorite C. Ryan Shipley (A New Brain, Mary Poppins, The Drowsy Chaperone, Singin’ in the Rain, On the Town) as Bing Crosby himself. Shipley’s spot-on impersonation will transport you to the 1940s era when crooners owned the airwaves.

SEEKING:

Ella Fitzgerald: Dubbed The First Lady of Song and Queen of Jazz, Fitzgerald possesses an effortless improvisational vocal ability.

The Andrews Sisters (Patty- mezzo-soprano, Laverne- contralto & Maxine- soprano): The seamlessly harmonizing and playful sister trio.

Rosemary Clooney: Iconic singer, actress, and jazz vocalist. Impeccable chemistry with Bing.

Bob Hope: Comedian, vaudevillian, singer & Bing’s best show-biz pal. Quick witted, spontaneous and brilliant with a one-line zinger.

Louis Armstrong: Among the most influential jazz musicians & singers of all time. His unmistakable voice & trumpet playing led critics & scholars to dub him “the first great jazz soloist”.

Ken Carpenter (Announcer & Host): Bing’s radio announcer for 27 years. Bing called him, “The man with the golden voice”.

Bios:

C. Ryan Shipley is an actor, singer, dancer, director, choreographer & educator. He has been working in the Twin Cities for the past 17 years, performing at multiple theatre companies including Children’s Theatre Company, Theater Latté Da, The Ordway, Yellow Tree Theatre, Old Log Theater, Girl Friday Productions, Skylark Opera, Minneapolis Musical Theatre & Paul Bunyan Playhouse in Bemidji MN. Holidays with Bing will mark C. Ryan’s 18th production at Artistry. He has directed & choreographed multiple shows at Cedar Summerstock Theater in Iowa, and choreographed for Old Log Theater & Girl Friday Productions. As a teaching artist & educator, C. Ryan has taught for Project SUCCESS, Guthrie Theater, Hennepin Theatre Trust, Stages Theatre Company, Steppingstone Theatre, Mill City Summer Opera & many others. He currently works as the Company Manager for Children’s Theatre Company and lives with his partner Reese and their cat Celia.

Bradley Greenwald is a singer, actor, writer and director. He has performed opera, theater, music-theater, concert and recital repertoire with several Minneapolis/St.Paul arts organizations, including Jungle Theater, Theater Latté Da, Open Eye Figure Theatre, Theatre de la Jeune Lune, Guthrie Theater, Children’s Theatre Company, 10,000 Things Theater, Nautilus Music-Theater, Minnesota Dance Theatre, James Sewell Ballet, VocalEssence, Frank Theatre, and Skylark Opera. He adapted Madeleine L'Engle's novel A Wrinkle in Time into a libretto for Libby Larsen’s opera; wrote the book and lyrics for C., an adaptation of Cyrano de Bergerac (Robert Elhai, music), produced by Theater Latté Da; and is co-adapting with Steven Epp Puccini's opera Gianni Schicchi for Theater Latté Da. He directed two productions for Lyric Opera of the North--Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore and Let's Make an Opera, a video production for elementary schools, which he also wrote. Bradley is the recipient of a Minnesota State Arts Board Fellowship in music, the McKnight Fellowship for Theater Artists, and a 2006 Ivey Award. Bradley lives in South Minneapolis with his husband, John Novak, the ever-resourceful stage manager and props designer at Jungle Theater.
