CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
Hay Fever:
Judith Bliss (offer out): David Bliss's wife. Sorel and Simon's mother. A recently retired actress, she still loves to act and keeps insisting she will return to the stage. She invites Sandy Tyrell as a weekend guest.
David Bliss: Judith Bliss's husband. Sorel and Simon's father. A novelist of some acclaim. He invites Jackie Coryton as a weekend guest.
Sorel Bliss: Judith and David's daughter, Simon’s sister. Sorel Bliss is bored with most of life. She invites Richard Greatham as a weekend guest.
Simon Bliss (offer out): Sorel’s brother. Simon is a would-be artist. He invites Myra Arundel as a weekend guest.
Myra Arundel: Sorel's invited houseguest. Well dressed, confident. Sophisticated.
Richard Greatham: Sorel's invited houseguest, ‘a proper English diplomat’. Somewhat stiff, but likeable.
Jackie Coryton: David's invited houseguest, a perfectly sweet flapper
Sandy Tyrell: Judith's invited houseguest. Fresh looking young man with a youthful sense of honor. Does a bit of boxing.
Clara: The housekeeper. Judith’s former dresser. Rather idiosyncratic.
The Vortex:
Helen Saville: Smart, caring, level headed and perceptive.
Pauncefort Quentin: Older ‘maiden gentleman’ – exceedingly ‘camp’.
Clara Hibbert: Affected, well dressed, emaciated soprano.
Florence Lancaster (offer out): Very attractive with the remnants of great beauty. Vain, insecure, nymphomaniac.
Preston: Florence’s Maid.
Tom Veryan: Extremely attractive, athletic build, ‘film star looks’, Army Officer.
Nicky Lancaster (offer out): Florence’s son. Pianist, tall, good looking, petulant, irascible, highly strung, drug addicted.
David Lancaster: Nicky’s father. Florence’s husband. Pleasant, easy going, resigned, placid but long suffering.
Bunty Mainwaring: Self assured, attractive in a 1920s boyish sort of way. Strong, perceptive.
