No advanced appointments. Sign-up sheets will be available ½ hour beforehand. (Please DO NOT ENTER the Wohl Center before 6:20 pm, as a children's program will be letting out before then.)

Showcase-NY Basic showcase code; Round-trip subway fare reimbursement; no pay (possible stipend).

SEEKING

Actors for various roles. See breakdown.

PREPARATION

Actors will read from sides at the audition. Bring picture and resume.

OTHER DATES

Performance Dates: Thursday June 6–Sunday June 9 and Thursday June 13–Sunday June 16, 2018 (10 performances over 2 weekends)

Performances will take place at the Bernie Wohl Center at Goddard Riverside Community Center, 647 Columbus Ave. (bet. 91st and 92nd Sts.), NYC.

Rehearsals will begin the week of May 7, primarily weekday evenings (Tues, Wed., Fri.) and Sat.–Sun. afternoons.

Callbacks: Wednesday April 17 (by invitation only, location to be announced)

An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of audition.

Character Breakdown: 10 characters: 4 women, 7 men

Please feel free to submit outside of age restrictions.*****

Myrtle Mae Simmons (Female, 20-ish): The daughter of Veta Simmons, embarrassed by her uncle Elwood Dowd.

Veta Simmons (Female, 40s-50s+): Myrtle Mae's mother and Elwood's sister. Considers herself a member of the better society of their small town. Slightly embarrassed by her brother.

Elwood P. Dowd (Male, 47+): Veta's brother. Pleasant, loveable, and a friend to everyone. Drinks, but not a drunk.

Mrs. Ethel Chauvenet (Male playing female, 65+): Wealthy and very grand society dowager. [Note: This role will be played by a male who will also play the Cab Driver.]

Ruth Kelly, R.N. (Female, 24): Pretty head nurse at Chumley's Rest, a sanitarium for mental patients.

Duane Wilson (Male, 28): Large, and muscular, the sanitarium's attendant and strong arm. Admires Dr. Chumley, perhaps excessively.

Dr. Lyman Sanderson (Male, 30-ish): A young doctor of psychiatry, quite attractive, has caught Ruth’s eye.

Dr. William R. Chumley (Male, late 50s+): Head of Chumley's Rest, confident, sometimes pompous.

Betty Chumley (Female, mid-50s+): Dr. Chumley's wife, good-natured, cheerful, bustling.

Judge Omar Gaffney (Male, elderly): An elderly lawyer, Judge Gaffney represents the estate of Veta and Elwood's late mother.

E.J. Lofgren (Male, any age): An ultimately wise cab driver.
