Edna Turnblad - male actor plays a caucasian woman, 35-50, a loving mother and wife with a fighter's spirit. Tenor.
Penny - female, caucasian, belt, 18-25, Tracy's perky best friend with a hidden desire to rebel;
Link Larkin - male, caucasian, baritone, 18-25; a teen idol overflowing with charisma;
Corny Collins - male, caucasian, tenor, 30 -45, suave and put-on publicly but smart;
Seaweed - male, african-american, tenor, 18-25, smooth, masculine, and extremely likeable;
Velma Von Tussle - female, caucasian, belt, 35-50, scheming and fame driven;
Amber Von Tussle - female, caucasian, belt, 18-25, an air of superiority despite a lack of talent;
Motormouth Maybelle - female, african-american, alto, 38 -52, soulful and witty with ideas of social change;
Li'l Inez - female, african-american, belt, 14-19, small in stature but big in opinions and dreams;
Wilbur - male, caucasian, baritone, 40 -55, good humored and happily simple;
Male Authority Figure -male, caucasian, non-singing roles, 35 - 65, plays Harriman F. Spritzer (President of Ultra Clutch cosmetics, Corny Collins show sponsor), the high blood pressure principal, and Mr. Pinky (owner of a plus sized dress shop);
Female Authority Figure - female, caucasian, non-singing roles, 40 -55, plays Prudy Pingleton (Penny's uptight mother), the sadistic gym teacher, and the prison matron;
The Dynamites - female, african-american, various, 18-30, Supremes knock-offs.

Princeton / Rod: Male, 20s. Princeton: Sweet, charming, cute and sincere. Has recently moved to Avenue Q, where he learns life lessons the hard way from puppets and humans alike. Lovable and appealing. Rod: Conservative, uptight investment banker. Closeted homosexual. Must be able to sustain a high G comfortably. Puppeteer skills a plus but not necessary.
Nicky / Trekkie Monster / Bad Idea Bear: Male, 20s-30s. Nicky: Unemployed, 20-something slacker. Rod’s roommate. Charming and undeniably cute. Trekkie Monster: Lives on Avenue Q, in the same building that Princeton moves into. Odd monster with a big heart. Invested in the Internet, and is secretly a millionaire. Bear: Cute, charming little boy bear who, with the help of Girl Bear, is a very bad influence on Princeton. Vocal style: Must be able to sustain a high A comfortably.
Kate Monster / Lucy T. Slut: Female, 20s. Kate Monster: Kindergarten teaching assistant who dreams about eventually opening a school for monsters. She may look sweet, put-together and conservative, but has a very feisty and opinionated monster side. Lucy T. Slut: Vixenish vamp with a dangerous side. Mezzo-soprano/belt; comfortably sing up to D in a pop voice.
Mrs. T / Bad Idea Bear / Ensemble:Female, 20s–30s. Mrs. T: Old spinster teacher. Bitter and conservative. Kate Monster’s boss. Bad Idea Bear: Cute, charming little girl bear who, with the help of Boy Bear, is a very bad influence on Princeton. Mezzo-soprano/belt; comfortably sing up to D in a pop voice.
Christmas Eve: Asian woman, 20s– 30s. Lives on Avenue Q with her Jewish husband, Brian. Smart, blunt and edgy, but also nurturing and kind.; strong belt to an E flat
Brian: 20s-30s. Chubby, laid-back, wannabe comedian; unemployed. Good guy who everyone always likes and is easy to be around.
Gary Coleman: Mid 20s – 40s, African American. Played by a woman. Former celebrity; now lives/works on Avenue Q. Funny and sardonic, with a unique and vivid presence. Alto who can sing a Low D and belt to a B flat.
