BREAKDOWN

Great Barrington Public Theater 2024 Season

DOG PEOPLE

SYNOPSIS: A world premier production. Two people, two dogs, a day in the park. The dogs are rescues and the people need rescuing. Who rescues who? And what are the right training methods to get there? This plays takes place one afternoon in a park while two charismatic canines and their concerned humans sort out love, recovery and second chances.

Casting notes: One actor plays Jesse the human and Betty the dog. One actor plays Avery the human and Atila the dog. Strong movement/clowning skills a plus. Jesse and Avery can be cast anywhere on or off the binary.

SEEKING:

Jesse/Betty: Jesse - Human 30s to early 40s. Smart, decisive, athletic. Betty - female canine, 2 years old. 65lbs. Aggressive Golden Doodle.

Avery/Atila: Avery - Human early 40's. Bookish, kind, gentle. Atila - male canine, 4 years old. 90 lbs. Mellow, curious, pit Bull mix.

SURVIVAL OF THE UNFIT

SYNOPSIS: An American premier. Survival of the Unfit takes audiences to a merciless meet-the parents dinner party where honesty is dished up, along with just desserts. Touching on themes of love, loss, loyalty, and acceptance of others' flaws, it redefines what family means today.

SEEKING:

Samuel: 35-40. Short/Medium height. Definitely carries some extra pounds. He puts very little attention into what he wears or how he looks. He’s unshaven most of the time. He is laid back and even keeled.

Shirley: 60-68. Samuel’s mother. Pretty, but life has taken a toll. She’s got a hard veneer and can be combative towards others, but under it all she has a vulnerable side which is only occasionally visible.

John: 65–70. Samuel’s father. He has a formality to him that is almost professional. He speaks with great enthusiasm and is always positive.

Mallory: 36-40. Samuel’s girlfriend. Tall, pretty. Has a comfortable style about her. She makes an impact in any room.
