TULLY (male presenting, any race/ethnicity age 27-40) Smooth-talking, self-deprecating playboy. He's completely content with the life he's chosen as the singer/ bartender at a tropical resort, until he meets Rachel, a vacationer who upends his heart. Guitar skills are useful. Vocal Range: B2-C5

RACHEL (female presenting, any race/ethnicity 27-33) Fully committed to her job and helping the world. Willing to put in as many hours of hard work as it takes and expects everyone else to do the same. Suspicious of fools and operators, Rachel is not easily distracted from her life plan. TAMMY (female presenting, any race/ethnicity 30-39) Loyal friend to Rachel. Sees the best in people and has a zest for life that is often squelched by her fiance, Chad. Her low self-esteem manifests itself as denial in her own life. Vocal Range: B3-F5

MARLEY (female presenting, any race/ethnicity age 40-50) No-nonsense and assertive with an island accent. She runs the resort and keeps everyone in check, but clearly cares about her employees, her customers, and J.D., an older island denizen. Great singer. Vocal Range: G#3-G#5

J.D. (male presenting, any race/ethnicity age 50-70) A funny, endearing older man who always has a parrot on his shoulder. He's losing his vision and his hearing, but won't acknowledge it. A good-natured drunkard, he's always writing his memoirs on bar napkins and, as it turns out, he's lived a full life. Vocal Range: G2-D4

BRICK (male presenting, any race/ethnicity age 30-40) The island bartender. Has a big heart and a good friend to Tully. Not the brightest bulb, but sensitive and thoughtful.

ENSEMBLE: A very STRONG group of dancers and singers. that perform the shows biggest singing and dancing numbers. Will portray vacation guests and island staff.

TRENT OLIVER (male presenting, any race/ethnicity age 30-59) Pretentious Juilliard graduate recently cast in the non-Equity tour of Godspell. Loves to hear himself speak. Handsome, charming. Strong singer-mover. Vocal range: C3- Ab4

ANGIE DICKINSON (female presenting, any race/ethnicity 30-50) An ensemble member in the Broadway production of Chicago. Jaded Fosse girl with a heart of gold. Strong dancer. Flexibility is a plus. Strong singer/belter. Alto. Vocal range: Ab3 - E5

EMMA NOLAN (female presenting, any race/ethnicity 18+) High School Senior in Indiana. A reluctant poster child for LGBTQ+ youth. Very smart. A bit of a tomboy quality. Sweet pop voice. MRS. GREENE (female presenting, any race/ethnicity 35-50) Alyssa’s intimidating, conservative, but

CAROLE KING (female presenting, 22-40, any race/ethnicity) An aspiring singer/songwriter. A unique, appealing, funny and vulnerable girl from a Jewish family in Brooklyn. Talented, good natured, unassuming and often the peacemaker in difficult situations. A reluctant star with no pretense and a passion for music. An exceptional singer with a powerful, distinctive voice. Piano skills preferred but not required.

GERRY GOFFIN (male presenting, 25-35, any race/ethnicity) Carole’s boyfriend, songwriting partner and eventual husband. He is smoldering & handsome with a rebel vibe. Although sexy, he is innately sympathetic, wounded and tortured. An ambitious artist always striving for more. Sings well. Baritone/tenor.

BARRY MANN (male presenting, 25-35, any race/ethnicity) A songwriter who becomes romantically involved with Cynthia. He is good natured, appealing & neurotic. Ambitious, but likable. Comedic with a great voice. A strong high tenor comfortable with pop & rock style singing.

CYNTHIA WEIL (female presenting, 20s, any race/ethnicity) A songwriter who becomes romantically involved with Barry. Carole’s best friend. She is sophisticated, smart & chic with a quick wit. Although self-confident and sarcastic, she is also extremely likeable. Strong comic timing who sings extremely well. Belt.

DON KIRSCHNER (male presenting, 40s-50s, any race/ethnicity) An influential music publisher and producer. He is a fast talking, energetic force of nature. Powerful, direct & sometimes intimidating, but he has a real affinity for his writers and artists. A hit maker. Non-singing role.

GENIE KLEIN (female presenting, 40s-50s, any race/ethnicity) Carole’s Jewish mother. Once an aspiring playwright, she has been broken down by life & her husband’s infidelity. Protective of Carole and unforgiving of her husband’s mistakes. Non singing role.

LONNY (male presenting, 25-35, any race/ethnicity) The narrator of the piece-charming, funny, mischievous, welcoming, vibrant personality, someone who would be fun to spend one crazy night with. Strong and honest with comedic timing/improv skills and strong rock vocals that can belt up to a high B.

DENNIS DUPREE (male presenting, 35-50, any race/ethnicity) Classic stoner type guy, former rocker - who runs the famous Bourbon Room club. Torn about whether he should sell the club to Hertz, a German businessman. Very strong comedic timing. A laid back, easy going dude. Baritone rock vocals that can belt up to a G.

HERTZ (male presenting, 45-55, any race/ethnicity) An older German male. Uptight, cold, intimidating businessman trying to buy up the Sunset Strip to develop it. The “villain” of the piece. Strong comedic timing and baritone vocals (belt up to G#), German accent.

STACEE JAXX (male presenting, 25-40, any race/ethnicity) A charismatic rock star. Decided to leave his successful hair/metal-rock band to try it solo. Self important, confident and intriguing in all the wrong ways, the ultimate bad boy; he is all about rock-n-roll and its benefits. Great strong comedic timing and strong rock tenor voice (belts up to high C)

JUSTICE (female presenting, African American 30-45) Strong presence, an easy sensuality about her, once a performer, she now operates a gentlemen’s club where Sherrie winds up working. Maternal with soulful vocals and belt up to C# with strong low notes).

DREW (male presenting, 20-30, any race/ethnicity) A strong rock tenor that can belt up to at least a high C, preferably high D, with comedic timing and charm. He’s a rocker who dreams of making it big on the Sunset Strip and beyond. A devoted good guy who’s currently working as a bar back at the famous Bourbon Bar as he strives to “break in writing and singing his own music. He has instant attraction and chemistry with Sherrie.

SHERRIE (male presenting, 20-30, any race/ethnicity) A strong rock belter up to D# with strong low notes, great comedic timing and good movement ability. She is straight off the bus from Kansas and new to the Sunset Strip to pursue her passion and dreams of becoming an actress. Unsuspecting and trusting in others even as she finds herself taking a stripper job to get by.

FRANZ (male presenting, 20s, any race/ethnicity) Hertz’s son with a rock belt up to A. He is pressured and intimidated by his father to work for him. He’d much rather be back home starting his own confectionery store. Shy, gentle with a big heart. Has dance ability.

REGINA (female presenting, 20s, any race/ethnicity) A conscientious, earthy, hippie type who leads the protest against Hertz’s attempted take-over of the Strip. Who has strong comedic timing. Rock Belt up to a C#. Has dance ability.

MAYOR/JA’KEITH (male presenting, 20s, African American) A strong African American character with good comedic timing doubles as numerous roles, strong rock tenor and strong dance/movement ability. (Vocal range D3-B4)

JOEY PRIMO (male presenting, 20s, any race/ethnicity) A young man with the rocker sensibility, strong rock tenor and strong dance/movement ability.

JASON/TYRONE (male presenting, any race/ethnicity 18+ to play 17) seemingly mild-mannered and polite; retiring, inarticulate, and shy. His father has just died, he is hurt, anxious, and introverted; has an alter-ego hand puppet who is extremely aggressive, foul-mouthed, shameless, and highly articulate. Puppetry skills and character voices.

MARGERY (female presenting, any race/ethnicity 40+) Jason’s mother, a jittery woman trying desperately to keep her family and life together after the death of her husband. Warm and passionate, but seems like a powder keg about to explode, and when it does, an aggressive sexuality comes flooding out.

PASTOR GREG (male presenting, any race/ethnicity 40+) Tries valiantly to fulfill his duties as the shepherd of his flock; seemingly supportive; underneath, however, it is clear that his altruism is fueled by needy loneliness; he has his meltdown point, and, out of nowhere, violence can flare up.

TIMMY (male presenting, any race/ethnicity 18+ to play 17) a troubled kid, caught in survival mode at having to negotiate his dysfunctional family; he protects his fragility by forgoing any impulse control; behavior problems in school.

JESSICA (female presenting, any race/ethnicity 18+ to play 17) a complicated young woman trapped in a small town with small ideas; smart, though somewhat introverted; does not suffer fools gladly.
