BREAKDOWN

Looking for 5 Versatile Actor/Singers who move, of all ethnicities, to portray a community of Mice, in this musical adaptation based on the beloved book by Leo Lionni.

The mice are getting ready for winter, and each has a role to play – even Frederick, who seems to not be helping, until his friends realize that he’s an artist, and is soaking in the colors and the sounds of the meadow, which he’ll conjure up to get the community through the darkest days, until Spring comes again.

The show is geared for our youngest audiences – ages 4 and up, but MainStreet shows never talk down to the audience – the opposite – we believe that children are inherently imaginative and smart. The sophisticated production values and the universal message about community will make the show appealing for all ages!

FREDERICK (Male) 20’s – 30’s (Tenor): A productive dreamer. Frederick is youthful in spirit and appearance. He revels in life’s small pleasures, sees possibilities everywhere and is constantly observing. Insatiably imaginative, he takes time for solitude to simply allow his mind to wander. Constantly curious, he looks around the world and wants to know why, and how, it is the way it is. In other words, he is an artist.

ERNEST (Male): 40’s – 50’s (Baritenor/tenor). Kindly, wise and a bit of an eccentric with a penchant for gadgets and systems. Ernest is older than the others, and is never afraid to share his wisdom.

NELLIE (Female): 20’s – 40’s (Mezzo Soprano) . Sweet and sensitive, “nervous Nellie” is preoccupied with the coming winter and tends to overreact to the smallest of wintry signs. Despite her nervousness, she’s a grounding force within the mouse commune, and she works hard to gently keep everyone on task. Beneath the surface, she just might be a bit envious of Frederick.

SUNNY (Female): 20’s – 40’s (Soprano). Warm, cooperative and considerate, with seemingly infinite patience. Sunny is eternally optimistic and accepting. She’s always on the lookout for fun and adventure.

BABY (Male or Female). (Soprano or Tenor) 20’s. The smallest mouse. Baby is the object of the mouse commune’s affections. He or she is completely in tune with the moment – as well as being really cute and funny, with a healthy dose of moxie
