SEEKING

Equity actors and singers for various roles in the upcoming 2020-21 season. Note: some roles have been precast. See breakdown.

All SM and ASM positions have been filled.

PREPARATION

Please prepare EITHER 1) a brief classic or modern American monologue that’s no more than 90 seconds; OR 2) a brief musical theatre song no more than 90 seconds; OR 3) a very brief monologue and 16 bars of a song combined total 90 seconds. Please provide your own sheet music. An accompanist will be provided.

CARRIE WATTS: Lives with her busy, overprotective son, LUDIE WATTS, and pretentious daughter-in-law, JESSIE MAE. No longer able to drive and forbidden to travel alone, she wishes for freedom from the confines of the house and begs her son to take her on a visit to Bountiful. Late 60’s to mid 70’s.

LUDIE WATTS: Son of CARRIE WATTS. Husband to JESSIE MAY WATTS. Product of a loveless marriage, trapped by financial circumstances, unable to provide as a husband or son. Mid 40’s

JESSIE MAY WATTS
Wife of LUDIE WATTS. Daughter in-law to CARRIE WATTS. Although territorial and small minded at times, she is a woman with great vitality. Late 30’s

THELMA
A young woman that CARRIE WATTS encounters on the bus. Radiant, raised well, happy, pure and open. 20’s.

40s or older. Sturdy physical frame. As the ghost, he communicates non-verbally.

JACOB MARLEY
40s or older. Deceased business partner of Scrooge. Once bitter, he now cautions Scrooge against self-serving practices.

30s-40s. Cheerful and devoted employee of Scrooge. Optimistic and caring father.

MRS. CRATCHIT
30s-40s. Loving wife of Bob Cratchit. Worried mother, harbors ill will toward Scrooge.

FRED
late 20s. Scrooge’s young nephew. Genial and appreciative of the Christmas Spirit.

MRS. FRED
late 20s. Wife of Fred. Strong-willed, but with a generous spirit.

20s. Sassy and opinionated.

SEEKING:

ALBERT EINSTEIN: The German-born theoretical physicist who developed the general theory of relativity. He fled Nazi Germany and settled in Princeton NJ where he was offered a position with the Institute of Advanced Study at Princeton University. Age range late 50’s.

MARIAN ANDERSON: One of the most celebrated singers of the 20th century. She performed on concert stages around the World, but suffered discrimination at home in the United States. African American; age range late 40’s. The actress playing this role must be able to sing. Vocal type: contralto.

ABRAHAM FLEXNER: Head of the Institute of Advanced Studies at Princeton University, he recruited EINSTEIN to be a fellow at the Institute. Age range 60’s.

MARY CHURCH TERRELL: African American woman, age 60’s, but with the energy of a 30-year old. A civil rights activist and suffragist who worked tirelessly to put an end to racial prejudice. She helped plan MARIAN ANDERSON historic concert at the Lincoln Memorial in 1939.

THE FOLLOWING ROLE HAS BEEN CAST:
DON QUIXOTE (Cervantes): Tall, thin man in his late 40s. He is an actor, playwright and would be knight. He’s a romantic—some say crazy—and has a vision of a far better and nobler world, where knights and chivalry rule the day.

SEEKING:

SANCHO (The Manservant): Older than Don Quixote, Sancho is short and squat. He has served Quixote/Cervantes for many years and is devoted to him. Tenor, age range 40-50’s.

CAPTAIN OF THE INQUISITION /JOSE (muleteer): A man of authority. Male, bass- baritone, age range 30-50s.

ALDONZA/DULCINEA: A serving woman and a part-time prostitute at the inn, Aldonza is rough on the exterior, but has a gentle heart. Quixote falls in loves with her and insists her name is DULCINEA. Tough, independent, self-reliant. Female, mezzo-soprano, age range 25-35.

INNKEEPER/GOVERNOR: A large and powerful man, he is kind as the Innkeeper, but as the Governor he’s the leader of the inmate society in the prison. Male, baritone, age range 40s-50s.

DR. CARRASCO/THE DUKE: As the character of the Duke he’s the sidekick to the Governor; however, when he plays Dr. Carrasco, he is Antonia's fiancé. Male, tenor-baritone, age range 30s-50s.

THE PADRE: Male, high baritone, age range 35-45

ANTONIA/FERMINA: Quixote's niece and Dr. Carrasco's fiancée. Female, mezzo soprano, age range 30s-40s.

THE HOUSEKEEPER/MARIA: Female, mezzo soprano, age range 45-60

THE BARBER/ALSELMO (muleteer): Male, tenor/baritone, age range 30-40

PEDRO: The head muleteer, Pedro is a mean and vicious man, leading an attack on Aldonza. Male, tenor/baritone, age range 25-35.

JUAN: A muleteer. Male, tenor/baritone, age range 20-30.

PACO: A muleteer. Male, tenor/baritone, age range 20-40.

TENORIO: A muleteer. Male, tenor, age range 30s-50s.

ENSEMBLE: Male and Female. Seeking a diverse group of 4 singers/actors/dancers/musicians to double as both ensemble members (guards, flamenco dancers, guitar player) and understudies for principal roles.
