Catherine, a troubled young woman, has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father, a famous mathematician. Now, following his death, she must deal with her own volatile emotions; the arrival of her estranged sister, and the attentions of a former student of her fathers who hopes to find valuable work in the notebooks that her father left behind.

seeking

Hal (Male – 25-35): One of Robert's last Ph.D. students during the one year his idol and mentor's illness went into remission.

THE FOLLOWING ROLES ARE CAST WITH RESIDENT ACTING COMPANY. PERFORMERS WILL BE CONSIDERED AS POSSIBLE REPLACEMENTS SHOULD ANY BECOME NECESSARY:

Claire (Female – 25-35): Catherine's older sister, a practical and business-minded woman who has been comfortably successful in her work and relationships. She left the family to make a new life for herself in New York City.

Catherine (Female – 25-35): A young woman who inherited much of her father's mathematical genius and, she fears, his instability as well; she gave up her life and schooling to take care of her father until his recent death.

Robert (Male – 50-65): A recently deceased mathematician praised for his groundbreaking work in his youth, but whose later years were plagued by delusional mental illness; he is seen in Catherine's imagination and in flashbacks.

Closing: 11 / 17 / 2019

Set in Pittsburgh in the late 1990s, it’s the story of a successful entrepreneur who aspires to become the city’s first black mayor. seeking

Roosevelt Hicks (Male – African-American – 40-50): Bank vice president and avid golfer, as well as Harmond’s business partner and college roommate. Roosevelt is preoccupied with his financial status and getting green time.

Sterling Johnson (Male – African-American – 40-50): Self-employed contractor and neighborhood handyman who robbed a bank thirty years ago. Sterling and Harmond attended the same parochial school as boys, but the economically disadvantaged Sterling chose in youthful recklessness to rob a bank rather than build one.

Elder Joseph Barlow (Male – African-American – 65-75) Recently returned to the Hill District where he was born in 1918. Although ostensibly as harmless as he is homespun, his temperament belies a life checkered by run-ins with the law and a series of wives. He sees and calls things plainly, requires little and seeks only harmony.

THE FOLLOWING ROLES ARE CAST WITH RESIDENT ACTING COMPANY. PERFORMERS WILL BE CONSIDERED AS POSSIBLE REPLACEMENTS SHOULD ANY BECOME NECESSARY:

Mame Wilks (Female – African-American – 40-50): Harmond’s wife of more than twenty years and a professional public relations representative. She is focused on Harmond’s success, as well as her own, and is confident that she has the proper plan to achieve both.

Adapted from Agatha Christie’s masterpiece, Ken Ludwig takes you on a suspenseful, thrilling ride aboard the legendary Orient Express.

Seeking

Princess Dragomiroff (Female – 60-80): A very formal Russian dowager, she has a sweeping, impressive presence. She is imperial, and impatient.

Countess Andrenyi (Female – 25-35): Brilliant Hungarian beauty, she is like something out of a fairytale. She is impeccably put together with a warmth that wins over everyone she meets. Her delicacy belies a steely edge – she is no wilting flower.

Hercule Poirot (Male – 40-60): A famous Belgian detective, he possesses a big personality. He is authoritative, witty, charismatic and slightly pompous. He is driven to find the answers, good or bad, with a strong moral sense. He is very aware of his ability and his well-deserved reputation.

Hector MacQueen (Male – 30-40): Tightly wound, edgy, and nervous American, he seems to always be on the verge of falling apart or coming unwound.

Michel the Conductor and Marcel (Male – 35-50): One actor will play two roles. Michel is a good-looking Frenchman with a quiet, almost grave sense of humor. He is unfailingly polite. Marcel is a snooty, smooth Turkish waiter.

THE FOLLOWING ROLES ARE CAST WITH RESIDENT ACTING COMPANY. PERFORMERS WILL BE CONSIDERED AS POSSIBLE REPLACEMENTS SHOULD ANY BECOME NECESSARY:

Helen Hubbard (Female – 45-60): an outspoken and flamboyant American from the Midwest, she is unapologetic, jovial, obnoxious, domineering, deliciously nosy, and brash.

Greta Ohlsson (Female – 25-45): An inherently odd, very devout Swedish woman, she has a frightened, sheep-like quality.

Mary Debenham (Female – 25-35): Beautiful English governess, she is capable yet romantic. There is a sadness around her eyes and a hardness about her person.

Monsieur Bouc (Male – 35-55): A Belgian man of good humor, he is playful, proud, and generous. He has a predilection for grandeur, and is a whirlwind of energy.

Colonel Arbuthnot and Ratchett (Male – 35-50): One actor will play two roles. Samuel Ratchett is a middle-aged American businessman who is evil at heart. He is frightening, brusque, pushy and domineering. Colonel Arbuthnot is a handsome Scotsman who is very matter of fact, and occasionally tender.

Bari’s always been a bit of an angry, depressed misanthrope. And losing her job teaching nihilism in New York to work at the local fulfillment center in her rural hometown of East Cooperville has sent her into despair. But lately her recurring headaches manifest bizarre, ecstatic, almost religious experiences, and they’re changing her entire view of life. She’s in love… She’s almost… happy! When she finds out they’re also killing her, she must decide whether it’s better to live a short, joyful life, or risk a lifetime of misery.

Seeking

Patty (Female – 40-55): Brash, bossy, and loud, she has the wisdom of experience but not much formal education. She has lived in East Cooperville all her life and doesn't hide her opinions about things.

Luanne (Female – 18-25): Patty's niece and Bari’s co-worker, she is comedically innocent and unpolished in a way that is not sophisticated but has lots of heart; she’s never been outside of East Cooperville.

THE FOLLOWING ROLES ARE CAST WITH RESIDENT ACTING COMPANY. PERFORMERS WILL BE CONSIDERED AS POSSIBLE REPLACEMENTS SHOULD ANY BECOME NECESSARY:

Bari (Female – 45-55): Nihilistic, misanthropic, and chronically depressed, she works at a fulfillment center in her tiny childhood hometown of East Cooperville in upstate NY. Her recurring headaches begin manifesting strange episodes of ecstatic, joyful, almost religious experiences, and she starts to see everything anew.

Mike (Male – 45-60): Patty's cousin, he has been living on the streets of NY. He is a man with a tragic past who only finds peace when he is building houses out of found objects. Out of practice when it comes to normal social interaction, he is a sweet, deeply good person, who has had to put up strict boundaries to protect himself.

CRY IT OUT
By Molly Smith Metzler
Director: Vincent M. Lancisi
First Rehearsal: 3 / 2 / 2020
Opening: 4 / 3 / 2020
Closing: 5 / 3 / 2020

Jessie is a corporate lawyer in a Manhattan firm. Lina is a community-college dropout and born-and-bred Long Islander. They don’t seem to have anything in common, but marooned at home with infants, they strike up a fast friendship. In the yard between their houses—as far as their baby monitors will reach—they bond over sleep deprivation, unreliable childcare, and “having it all.” A candid comedy about who gets to make which hard choices in the tinderbox of parenthood and class in the United States.

Seeking

Jessie (Female – 30-40): Educated, articulate, and warm, she is from the Midwest and has that Midwestern ready smile. She doesn’t like empty days on the calendar, and worked 90-hour weeks in the city before her daughter was born – now she’s in yoga pants.

THE FOLLOWING ROLES ARE CAST WITH RESIDENT ACTING COMPANY. PERFORMERS WILL BE CONSIDERED AS POSSIBLE REPLACEMENTS SHOULD ANY BECOME NECESSARY:

Lina (Female – 30-40): From the South Shore of Long Island, she has acrylic nails, big hoop earrings, and dresses in velour track suits with NY Mets trucker hats. She comes for a huge Italian family and is fun, funny, and refreshingly genuine. She works at St. Francis Hospital.

Adrienne (Female – 30-40): Mitchell's wife, she is elegant, powerful, aloof, and slightly rock n roll. A successful jewelry designer, she grew up on Central Park West, attended posh boarding schools, studied art abroad, and could give you the best-ever guided tour of MoMA.

Mitchell (Male actor – 30-40): Adrienne's husband, he is a math nerd who is amazing with numbers, but not people. Serious, shrewd, sensitive, he grew up in a tough house in a tough part of Utica and scholar-shipped his way to where he is now, so grades, status, and success are his currency. But becoming a father has changed him.

AWAKE AND SING
By Clifford Odets
Director: Noah Himmelstein
First Rehearsal: 4 / 27 / 2020
Opening: 5 / 29 / 2020
Closing: 6 / 28 / 2020

By turns starkly dramatic and vividly comic, it is the story of the Bergers, a lower-middle-class, three-generation Jewish family living in a Bronx apartment during the Depression. Odets, who described his play as a struggle for life amid petty conditions, captures the frenetic, pressured existence in this crowded dwelling with robust authenticity. The play recalls that this country has been perceived as a source of opportunity for immigrants who re-root themselves in its cities and towns with an enduring belief in the American dream.

Seeking

Bessie Berger (Female – 45-55): The mother and self-proclaimed father of the house, she possesses great resourcefulness and energy. Naïve and quick in emotional response, proper according to her own standards, dominating, opinionated, and controlling, she only wants her children to be secure but often at the cost of their happiness.

Hennie (Female – 23-28): Myron and Bessie’s daughter, she has had few friends. Self-reliant in the best sense, she has a bold sense of humor and energy. She is stubborn and snarky and often keeps her feelings close to her chest. She likely knows what she wants but doesn’t always act on it.

Jacob (Male – 65-80): Bessie and Morty’s father and a constant boarder in the Berger home, he is a sentimental Jewish idealist with no power to turn ideal into action. He has the flair of an artist when it comes to being a barber, but otherwise falters trying to find a right path for himself. A Marxist and an observer of others, he has a reflective nature.

Uncle Morty (Male – 45-59): Bessie’s brother and a successful American businessman, the lives of others seldom touch him deeply. Pleased by attention and deeply intolerant, he thinks mostly of himself.

Schlosser (Male – 50-65): The German superintendent of the building in which the Bergers live. He has lived a life of desperation and frustration for two decades.

Sam Feinschreiber (Male – 25-35): A lonely immigrant with whom Myron works, he is the vehicle through which Bessie can preserve her family’s respectability after Hennie becomes pregnant.

Ralph Berger (Male – 20-25): Myron and Bessie’s son, he is a boy with a clean spirit and a strong desire to learn. Ardent, romantic, sensitive, and naïve, he is in love with an orphan girl, despite his mother’s protests. He seeks comfort from his grandfather Jacob.

THE FOLLOWING ROLES ARE CAST WITH RESIDENT ACTING COMPANY. PERFORMERS WILL BE CONSIDERED AS POSSIBLE REPLACEMENTS SHOULD ANY BECOME NECESSARY:

Myron Berger (Male – 50-60): Bessie’s husband, he is a born follower who would like to be a leader. Heartbroken, but not aware of it, he is generally disregarded by his family, particularly his wife. He rarely gets a word in edgewise.

Moe Axelrod (Male – 30-40): A friend of the Berger family, he is mordant, bitter, and argumentative. Life has taught him a disbelief in everything. He lost a leg in the war, and he seldom forgets that fact. Very proud and rarely showing his feelings, he only wants to be with Hennie, but is sometimes too stubborn to admit this.
