Please prepare two brief monologues: 1 comedy, 1 traditional.

Please bring a picture & resume, stapled back-to-back.

All roles are available unless otherwise specified:

Educating Rita by Willy Russell. DIR TBA. 1st reh: 2/14/12. Runs 3/8 – 4/1/12.

Dr. Frank Bryant:

35-60. Professor. Alcoholic career academic. Has taken on the tutorship to pay for his drink.

Susan:

English woman, 20-25. Initially calls herself Rita. Working-class. Dissatisfied with the routine of her work and social life. Seeks inner growth by signing up for and attending an Open University course in English Literature.

Art by Yasmina Reza. Dir TBA. 1st reh: 4/17/12. Runs 5/10 – 6/17/12.

Set in Paris, the story revolves around three friends who find their previously solid 15-year friendship on shaky ground when one buys an expensive painting. The canvas is white, with a few white lines.

The comedy raises questions about art and friendship.

Serge:

Man, 30-55. Proud of his 200,000-franc acquisition (a large, completely white painting). Fully expecting the approval of his friends. Serge and Marc’s relationship suffers considerable strain as a result of their differing opinions about what constitutes "art".

Yvan:

Man, 30-55. Insecure. Burdened by the problems of his impending doom (wedding) and his dissatisfaction at his job as a stationery salesman. The trio’s friendship is his sanctuary. Caught in the middle of the conflict, Yvan tries to please and mollify both of his friends.

Marc:

CAST. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible (emergency) replacements, should any become necessary. Man, 30-55. Angry and horrified at Serge’s purchase … but is it the painting that offends him, or the uncharacteristic independence-of-thought that the purchase reveals in Serge? Marc and Serge’s relationship suffers considerable strain as a result of their differing opinions about what constitutes "art".
