SEEKING

Equity actors and singers for roles in Detroit Public Theatre 2023-24 Season (see breakdown).

Equity encourages everyone participating in the auditions to wear a two-ply cloth face mask, surgical mask, singer’s mask or respirator (N95, KN95 or KF94). Single-ply face masks, gaiters and bandanas are not recommended. Singer’s masks can be found at

Equity encourages members to prepare for their audition prior to arriving at the audition venue, to the extent that they can (e.g., get

dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms.

PREPARATION

Please prepare monologue(s) no more than 2 -3 minutes in length. If Singing: No more than 2 minute song selection, and sheet music to provide to accompanist. Bring your Headshot and Resume.

CLYDE'S

Jason- Mid-20’s to early 30’s. White. Working class. Funny. Served 8 years in prison. White supremacist affiliation.

Clyde- Late 30’s - 50’s. Black. Able to change the temperature of a room with an entrance. Loves to expose vulnerabilities. Seductive. Brash. Controls the room. Wicked. Runs truck stop.

Montrellous- 40’s-late 50’s. Black. Mindful. Interested in healing. Kind. Sensitive and caring, particularly to the younger generation.

Uses cooking as a means of meditation.

Rafael- Mid-late 20’s. Latinx.Working to find a more spiritual path. Full of charm. Terrified of his boss

Letitia-Mid-late 20’s. Black. She is a survivor and has life skills. She is working towards building a mindful path.

BLUES FOR AN ALABAMA SKY

ANGEL ALLEN: (Female, 34 – 40. Ethnicity: Black / African Descent) A 34-year-old Black woman who looks five years younger, a former backup singer at The Cotton Club.

GUY JACOBS: (Male, 30 – 40. Ethnicity: Black / African Descent) A thirtyish black man, costume designer at The Cotton Club.

DELIA PATTERSON: (Female, 25 – 30. Ethnicity: Black / African Descent) A 25-year-old Black woman, a social worker on staff at Harlem Hospital.

LELAND CUNNINGHAM: (Male, 28 – 35. Ethnicity: Black / African Descent) A 28-year-old Black man from Alabama, a six-week resident of Harlem.

SAM THOMAS: (Male, 40ish. Ethnicity: Black / African Descent.) A forty-year-old doctor at Harlem Hospital.

ERICH BLUM - Rebecca's father - White. Jewish. Ages from 40s-60s. Doubles as Joram, 40 in night 8

ANNA BLUM - Rebecca's Mother. No longer alive. White. Jewish. Doubles as REBECCA BLUM - ages 48-80s in nights 4-8.

AARON - Ages from 25 - 50s. White. Jewish. Rebecca's Husband.

BENJAMIN - African American. Ages from 40s-60s. Doubles as MATT in Night 6. ARLENE - African American. Ages from 38-52. Doubles as LACEY, 20s, in night 7. STEVEN - Half Japanese, Half White. 20s. Doubles as INGE in night 6.
