BREAKDOWN

In reference to the character descriptions below – we recognize that most characters are written on the binary and use he/him or she/her pronouns. We invite gender non-conforming, gender queer, transgender, non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with. We are seeking all races and ethnicities. As an ADA compliant theatre, we welcome performers of all abilities and will make all reasonable accommodations in order to cast performers, regardless of disability, in any role possible

***We are looking for physically and vocally strong actors. Specifically seeking actors with diverse backgrounds and ethnicities to join our production.***

***Dracula has been an annual tradition at Actors Theatre for decades. The length of the production run and the student matinees require strength and endurance. Please be advised that this production of Dracula is physically and vocally demanding. All callbacks will include learning a fight sequence; actors should come prepared in appropriate active wear and footwear for the callback. This production also includes pyrotechnics, imitation blood, intimate moments & a trained rat onstage.***

Seeking:

VAN HELSING:
(Mid 30’s- Early 50’s, Any Ethnicity) A woman approaching middle age. She is a Medical Doctor, a Psychiatrist, an Epidemiologist, a Philosopher, and a World Traveler. She has trained in many varied styles of Martial Arts. Van Helsing is a Scholar of the Esoteric Arts and Supernatural, an author of many books and an unparalleled Vampire Hunter. She is called to help her friend and former student who runs an asylum. Having lost his fiancé to a very strange disease, this friend is now treating another without success. Van Helsing is a hero and arrives to save the day. Actor must have strong physical/fight skills. Martial Arts experience a plus.

DR. THOMAS SEWARD:
(early – mid 30’s, Any Ethnicity) A medical Doctor who runs a psychiatric hospital. An intelligent young Englishman, grieving his late fiancé. A deeply caring, vulnerable human being. Brave and serious, a compassionate healer. Actor should be emotionally available. Actor must have strong physical/fight skills.

LUCY WESTPHAL:
(late 20’s – early 30’s, Any Ethnicity) She transforms from an innocent Victorian woman to a demonic force imprisoned by Dracula, and finally, to a formidable Vampire Hunter. Must be physically strong and agile and portray the full range from sweet innocence to wildly animalistic. Actor must have strong physical/fight skills. Martial arts, circus skills, acrobatic skills a major plus.

JONATHAN HARKER:
(late 20’s – early 30’s, Any Ethnicity) Lucy’s fiancé and Dracula’s solicitor, pragmatic and experienced in the world. He senses the evil that has come to Lucy and will do anything to save her. Harker is a bit of a modern thinker in that he encourages Lucy to be his equal. He is straight-forward, intelligent, grounded, honest, good energy. Actor must have strong physical/fight skills.
