Prepare a brief dramatic monologue no more than 2 minutes.

SUPERIOR DONUTS

By Tracy Letts. Director: Paul Mullins

Arthur Przybyszewski:

59. Polish American. Owner of Superior Donuts. His life is at a stand still. The past haunts him. The future doesn’t have much to offer. But the power of his friendship with Franco changes everything.

Franco Wicks:

21. African American. An open, bright, outgoing, gifted young man. A dreamer with the talent to back up those dreams and a gambling addiction guaranteed to end them.

Max Tarasov:

49. Russian. Owns a video store. A funny guy. An angry guy who thinks his American dream hasn’t quite come true.

Randy Osteen:

50. Female. Irish-American. A good cop; a neighborhood cop. She has a great crush on Arthur.

James Bailey:

40-45. African-American. A god cop; a neighborhood cop.

Lady Boyle:

65-80. Irish-American. A penniless alcoholic always on her first day of sobriety.

Luther Flynn:

45. Irish/Italian-American. A low level gangster. A bookie. A bad ulcer and the stress that caused it are aging him fast.

Kevin Magee:

25-30. Irish-American. Luther’s muscle. A punk.

Kiril Ivakin:

30-35. Russian. Max’s nephew. Right off the boat. Big, strapping wall of a man. No one is going mess with him.


DIAL "M" FOR MURDER

Margot Wendice:

late 20s - early 30s. English Socialite, She is strong willed but easy going. She has an innate charm. She's quick witted but also vulnerable and trying to do the right thing.

Max Halliday:

30s. American television murder mystery writer. He is charming and likable. He doesn't take himself too seriously but he's very savvy. In love with Margot.

Tony Wendice:

34. Former Tennis champion. British. he has an easy charm and is very sure of himself. He is used to working hard for what he wants but he's tired of that.

Captain Lesgate:

36. British. He is a handsome con man. A rogue who has spent some time in prison. He is rougher than the others but able to dress up and play whatever role he needs to get what he wants.

Inspector Hubbard:

40-50s. British. An unassuming man. He is good at his job and does it quietly and efficiently. You could easily underestimate him.

Thompson:

20s-30s. British. He is a young detective. Earnest and strong. This actor might also play other roles who call in through the phone.


NOISES OFF

Dotty Otley:

50s. Fading British Sitcom star who is something of a ditzy diva. Plays Mrs. Clackett; the Brent’s put-upon housekeeper in Nothing On. Spiteful when pushed.

Lloyd Dallas:

Late 30s- Early 50s. The irascible director of Nothing On, who is having affairs with two different women in the company. Cutting and clever.

Gary LeJeune:

30s. Bumbling, well-meaning leading man with excellent physical comedy skills. Plays pseudo-suave real estate agent, Roger Tramplemain, in Nothing On. In love with Dotty and psychotically jealous.

Brooke Ashton:

20s –30s. All body, no brain, ingénue. Plays Inland Revenue Agent Vicki in Nothing On. Spends much of the play in her underwear.

Poppy Norton-Taylor:

20s. Mousy Assistant Stage Manager of Nothing On . Somewhat timid, she tries to do her job well. Secretly pregnant with Lloyd’s baby.

Frederick Fellowes:

40s – 50s. Sensitive and slightly neurotic character actor. Plays tax- cheat, Philip Brent, in Nothing On. Gets nosebleeds at the thought of violence.

Belinda Blair:

30s - 40s. Meddling Leading Lady with a penchant for gossip. Plays Flavia, Philip’s wife, in Nothing On. Tries to keep everything together on stage and off.

Tim Allgood:

30s. Over- taxed Production Stage Manager of Nothing On. Diligently struggles to keep everything running smoothly. Hasn’t slept for weeks.

Selsdon Mowbray:

70s. Sweet, veteran character actor with a taste for the bottle. Plays the burglar in Nothing On. Keeps everyone constantly on their toes.


MAURITIUS

Upon the death of their mother, two estranged half-sisters battle over what is to be done with the rare and potentially valuable stamps to which each feels entitled.

Phillip:

50s; any ethnicity. Stamp expert/dealer and store owner. Mature, skillful and quietly savvy. Seemingly low key and marose, but very manipulative.

Dennis:

20s-30s; any ethnicity. Drifter, working part-time for Phillip. Funny, charming and slick. A real operator.

Sterling:

Male, 40s-late 50s; any ethnicity. Rich stamp collector. Dangerous and intense; not someone you want to cross;

Jackie:

Female, mid 20s; any ethnicity. Younger of two sisters. Proud, tough and desperate to escape her painful past. Complicated, edgy. Hasn't had things easily handed to her. Stubborn yet crafty, with the sense of humor of a world-weary survivor;

Mary:

Mary, 30s; any ethnicity. Jackie's older sister. Left the family to create a life for herself. Charismatic and articulate, possibly a bit parochial. Intent on preserving family history and integrity.
