Sidney Bruhl (early-mid 50s) – Sidney is a successful playwright who has not had a hit in 18 years and is feeling the financial pressure of his slump. He is a charming, handsome and, well-tended man who wears his age well. Sidney is extremely smart and fastidious, paying attention to every detail and carries himself with an air of confidence that can border on egomaniacal. He uses dry and sarcastic wit to hide a deep self-loathing and desperation inside him. He has a dark and malicious side to his personality and can turn on a dime. Social status and appearance are very important to Sidney. He desperately wants to have a hit play that will put him on top again and will do anything to get it. This actor must have a strong physical ability and stage combat experience is a must.

Clifford Anderson (mid 20s) – Cliff is an aspiring playwright looking for his first hit play. He is a student and companion to Sidney Bruhl. He is extremely handsome with a well-built physique and uses both of those attributes to get what he wants. Things come easily to Cliff and he has a fresh and optimistic outlook on life. However, he hides his inside flaws well and effortlessly alternates between naïve and conniving. Cliff is master of manipulation and can be very cunning. He wants nothing more than to be a successful writer and will do anything to make that happen. This actor must have a strong physical ability and stage combat experience is a must.

*Myra Bruhl (40s-50) – Myra is the wife of Sidney and has been devoted to him and his career for the last 11 years. She has given all of herself to him including her wealth and cares for him deeply. She is slender almost bordering on frail and has a weak heart. She is modest, self-effacing, nervous, and sweet. Myra has put aside her own dreams and ambitions for her husband and wants nothing more than to see him happy and successful. However, she is also looking for a little return on her investment.

Helga Ten Dorp (50s) – Helga Ten Dorp is an eccentric European mystic/psychic who has moved in next door to the Bruhls. She has incredibly potent psychic abilities and insights into the lives of those around her. She is bold, brash, opportunistic, and a bit mannerless. A bull in a china shop, she demands to be the center of attention wherever she is at and her eccentricities can put people on edge. Helga has the ability to quickly size up a situation and change her personality to get what she wants. She loves wealth and fame and will do anything to get it. She speaks with German/Dutch dialect. This actress must have impeccable comedic timing and prowess.

*Porter Milgrim (60s) – Porter is longtime friend and lawyer of the Bruhls. He is very protective of Sidney’s interests but is also jealous of his fame and wealth. He is smart, sharp, pragmatic, businesslike, meddlesome, and a bit dull. Porter is buttoned up and has trouble letting go of his legal brain. While being loyal he is not afraid to take advantage of a situation. He desperately wants to write but is not very good it.
