Auditions may be scheduled in advance by emailing Artistic Assistant Melva Graham at auditions@citytheatrecompany.org with your name, cell phone, and desired audition time. All audition requests must be submitted by 10am Friday, March 31st. The theatre will see auditions for un-scheduled Equity members and non-Equity performers on the day of auditions. If a performer is unable to attend the in-person call, video submissions will be accepted.

City Theatre is committed to diversity in all of its forms. We greatly encourage actors of all backgrounds to audition.
Performers should prepare a 3-minute contemporary comedic or dramatic monologue and bring a current headshot and resume to the audition. An accompanist will be provided for performers interested in auditioning for Somewhere Over the Border those auditions should include a brief cut of contemporary pop song.

At time of employment, City Theatre is requiring all employees, artists, and volunteers to demonstrate proof of Covid-19 full vaccination including at least one booster shot and/or legally allowable exemptions.
An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of audition.

Equity encourages everyone participating in the auditions to wear a two-ply cloth face mask, surgical mask, singer’s mask or respirator (N95, KN95 or KF94). Single-ply face masks, gaiters and bandanas are not recommended. Singer’s masks can be found at www.broadwayreliefproject.com/singersmask.
Equity encourages members to prepare for their audition prior to arriving at the audition venue, to the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms.

VIDEO SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Please limit your video submission to 3 minutes maximum. Artists should prepare a contemporary monologue of their choosing. This time limit includes your slate (your name, name of play and character you will be performing).
Please upload your video audition to YouTube as an unlisted video (Vimeo or similar video sharing sites that allow securely sharable links are also acceptable) and provide a link for viewing. Please do not share via WeTransfer, Google Drive, Dropbox, iCloud or other file sharing platforms.
Email submissions should be sent to auditions@citytheatrecompany.org and should include the video link, your contact information, and separate attachments of your headshot and resume. Video submissions are due by Monday, May 16th.
City Theatre will host in-person Equity Principal auditions for performers based in the greater Pittsburgh region. To ensure performer safety, the following protocols will be in place:
- All attendees must remain masked, except for a performer’s audition. If comfortable, the performer may remove their mask during their audition.
- There should be 10' of distance between the theater staff and the person auditioning.
- A separate waiting area will be provided for performers. While waiting, masks must remain on at all times.
- If a performer feels unwell on the day of the audition, they are asked to refrain from in-person auditions and submit a video audition instead.
- Any performer unable to attend in person auditions, may submit a video audition no later than 10:00am ET on Monday, April 3rd, 2023.
No roles will be understudied.

THE NARRATOR- A man of any age. Our charming guide. He plays guitar and joins the band in addition to leading us through Reina’s journey, doubling as a few characters along the way.
REINA- 18. A Salvadorean girl. Determined. Full of hope and dreams. She wants a better life for herself and her son in America. Willing to risk everything to make her dreams a reality.
JULIA- 40s. Reina’s mother. Salvadorean. A hard worker who provides for her family. Disapproves of her daughter fleeing to America.
ADÁN/CRUZ- ADÁN: 20s. Reina’s brother. Salvadorean. Loyal and dependable. He supports his sister’s dreams and helps to make them come true. CRUZ: an indigenous Guatemalan boy with dreams of obtaining an American degree.
DON NAPOLEON/SILVANO- DON NAPOLEON: 50s. A Salvadorean man who owns the restaurant that Reina works at. SILVANO: a man from Tapachula, Mexico with a dream to reunite with the rest of his family in America.
ANTONIA/LEONA- ANTONIA: 30s-40s. An older woman who lives in El Salvador and has a daughter in The United States. LEONA: a meek catholic nun from Guadalajara, with rock and roll dreams.

MARY BENNET- 20. Finally coming into her own, she is no longer the plain, boring girl she once was. She has a fire in her now. She is intelligent, curious, and lively, but her family only sees her as a future spinster. She does not suffer fools. She wants to live. Ideally plays piano.
ARTHUR de BOURGH- 25. A studious, unsociable only child who has never been around women or large families. He is a loner who prefers books to people. He has recently inherited a large estate and has no idea what to do next.
ELIZABETH DARCY- 22, married to Mr. Darcy. Confident, charming, and witty. She makes a fun and surprising lady of the house. She is best friends with her sister Jane.
FITZWILLIAM DARCY- 30. A loving, generous, and smart (if slightly stiff) husband. He is quiet and vigilant and thus sees what others often miss. He knows what being lovelorn is like.
JANE BINGLEY- 24, married to Mr. Bingley. She is seven months pregnant with her first child and is sweet and optimistic as ever. The kindest heart in the house.
CHARLES BINGLEY- 25. Gracious, happy, and ever focused on the love of his life, Jane. A good friend and always ready with a smile.
LYDIA WICKHAM- 17. Flirtatious, youthful, self-centered. Her marriage to Mr. Wickham is a sham but she will not admit this. She is the person you want to have at your party: energetic, engaging, unstoppable.
ANNE de BOURGH- 20s. Only daughter of the late Lady Catherine de Bourgh. Lived in her mother’s very large shadow, never having to ask for anything or speak for herself her entire life. Judgmental and impatient, just like her mother.

JUICY- 20-21. Black. Thicc. He’s beautiful. He is lonely. He is smart. A kind of Hamlet. Thinks deeply about himself and others, struggles with who he is and where he fits in the world. Haunted by his dead father.
TEDRA- 45-50. Black. Juicy’s mother. A kind of Gertrude. She loves her son but doesn’t always have his best interest in mind. Struggle’s between maintaining a good relationship with both him and her new husband.
REV/PAP- REV: 45-50. Black. Tedra’s new husband and her dead ex-husband’s brother. Pig farmer and pit master. Electric. Big presence. Works to make sure Juicy knows he’s now the man of the house. A kind of Claudius. PAP: 45ish. Black. The Ghost of Juicy’s father. Was in prison for killing someone cause their breath stank, til he got shanked on the way to dinner. Seeks vengeance for his death. A kind of Hamlet's Father.
OPAL- 19-20. Black. One of Juicy’s only friends. She loves Ham and worries about him. Independent and at odds with who she is and who her mother wants her to be. A kind of Ophelia.
LARRY- 21-23. Black. A boy that is attracted to Juicy. A marine. Trying to heal from PTSD. Has a secret. Awkward. A kind of Laertes.
RABBY- 40-45. Black. Larry and Opal’s mother. Tedra’s friend. Semi-churchy but honestly, she just wanna drink and praise the Lord. Unable to see her children for who they really are. A kind of Polonius.
TIO- 20-40. Black or Afro-Latinx. Juicy’s cousin. Oldest friend. Clever. Good comedic timing. He, too, is a deep thinker. Goes to therapy and is working on himself. A support system for Juicy. A kind of Horatio.

FARHAD- early 20s. Male. Persian. Political. Determined to resolve the civil unrest facing his country. Carries both a troubled past and dreams of the future.
