Freddie Trumper (Rock-Style Tenor) – American chess champion. To play 30’s. Temperamental, overly theatrical.
Florence (Mezzo/Belt) – Gregor’s young daughter. To play late 20’s early 30’s. In adulthood, acts as Freddie’s second.
Anatoly Sergievsky (Baritone) – Russia chess champion. To play 40’s Married to Svetlana, but falls in love with Florence.
Ivan Molokov (Bass) – Anatoly’s second. To play 40’s – 50’s. Russian
Walter (Bass/Baritone) – Freddie’s agent, to play late 30’s. Crass, commercial. Secretly works for the C.I.A.
Arbiter (Rock-Style High Baritone) – Judge of chess championship. To play 30’s – 40’s
Svetlana (Mezzo/Belt) – Antaloy’s Wife. To play 35- early 40’s. Russian.
Open to ethnically diverse casting of the American characters.
