PREPARATION

Prepare EITHER a) two contrasting 1-minute monologues OR b) a brief song (standard Broadway) OR c) a brief song and a 1-minute monologue. If singing, bring sheet music in the correct key; an accompanist will be provided, but may not transpose. Please bring a photo and resume, stapled back-to-back. Accompanist provided on 5/20 only

Seeking:

GOD - 20’s – 80’s, all genders and/or ethnicities. congenial, intelligent, energetic, outgoing, a winning, likable personality and offbeat charm. The almighty one. The King of Kings. The Lord of Lords. The Alpha and the Omega. Kinda full of Themselves in many ways and with a personality that is charming yet abrasive.

GABRIEL – 30’s – 80’s, all genders and/or ethnicities. An Angel of God's. By the books; no-nonsense, a depth of self-importance. The most senior angel on staff - in charge of the massive Guttenberg Bible and reads directly from the text. Is “in” on all of God’s jokes and opinions.

MICHAEL -20’s – 50’s, all genders and/or ethnicities. An Angel of God. Funny, impulsive, as irreverent an angel of God's can be. Feisty impertinence. God’s greatest advocate for humanity. Interacts with the audience directly and must have the interpersonal skills to deal with whatever unexpected thing may come.

Diana: Late 30s to early 40s – bipolar – delusional – manic depressive. Still attractive, appealing, quick witted. Vocal range G below middle C to high G – strong mix to a D.

Natalie: Must read 16 – Diana’s daughter. Bright and attractive she craves her mother’s affection and attention and gets none. Vocal range G below middle C to high G – strong mix to E flat.

Dan: Early to mid 40s. Diana’s husband. Good looking, patient and kind, but exhausted by family circumstances. Vocal range C (written middle C) to high A full voice and high D (above staff) falsetto.

Gabe: Diana’s son, must read 18. Charming, fun, energetic, carefree. BTW he’s a ghost or actually part of Dina’s delusion. Vocal range C (written middle C) to high A full voice and high D (above staff) falsetto.

Henry: Must read 17. Natalie’s boyfriend. Romantic, a musician, solid but last. A “stoner”. Vocal range low A below written middle C to high G full voice and high A falsetto.

Dr. Madden/Dr. Fine: played by the same actor. Age range 35 to 50. Dr. Fine is a psychopharmacologist. Practical, maybe a bit cold. Dr. Madden – Diana’s psychiatrist, described in the script as a “rock star” in that way that doctors can be perceived as saviors. Confident and unflappable. Vocal ranges low A below written middle C to high A flat full voice.

Clifford “Cliff” Bradshaw – An American writer traveling through Berlin (Baritone)

Fraulein Schneider – An older German woman who runs the boarding house that Cliff and Sally live in (Alto)

Herr Schultz – An elderly Jewish fruit shop owner who falls in love with Fraulein Schneider (Baritone)

Ernst Ludwig – A German man who befriends Cliff when he arrives in Berlin, later revealed to be a Nazi

Fraulein Kost – A German prostitute who rents in Fraulein Schneider’s boarding house (Mezzo-Soprano)

Charles Griffin, III: 40-55 years old, any ethnicity. An upper class British man who is living off of Barbara's (his American wife) money. He's desperate (really desperate) for his investment to pay off and he'll do just about anything to succeed. A broad comedian with impeccable timing.

Barbara: 35-50 years old, any ethnicity. Barbara, an extraordinarily wealthy heiress, who has just come home from a spa vacation has long been questioning her marriage to Charles and for the first time is starting to question her sexuality. A broad comedian with impeccable timing. THIS ROLE IS PRECAST

Laurie: 20-30 years old, any ethnicity. Don't underestimate this woman. She's a bombshell who may play coy, but she'll do anything to get what she needs. THIS ROLE IS PRECAST

Svyatoslava Ilyinichna Kyrychenko: 20-35 years old, Caucasian, Female. Ukranian. She is proud, deeply religious, somewhat self-righteous, and speaks with a thick accent. A former professional ballerina in the Ukraine, Slavik (as she is known) is now an overworked live-in maid who tries to be pleasant despite always feeling a bit put out. Must be able to do a series of fouettés and pirouettes and have great comedic timing. THIS ROLE IS PRECAST

Stephanie Wolcott: 30-45 years old, any ethnicity, transgender. Stephanie, the CEO of the Ottobock Prosthetic Company is a tough as nails businesswoman who needs (really needs) Charles' money. She's very lonely and, unfortunately, falling in love with Barbara, Charles' wife.

Rufus: 30-45 years old, African American. Male. Rufus is the chief designer and robotic engineer at Ottobock. Rufus can be catty but deep down he really does care about his colleagues, unbeknownst to whom, he is secretly having an affair with Senator Wannamead.

Edward: 30-45 years old, any ethnicity. Edward was a priest who, although he has left the clergy, is still a deeply devoted Catholic. He is a single below the knee amputee and is part of a team developing a breakthrough intelligent prosthetic leg. Strong physical comedian. Significant movement training a plus

Senator Sam Wannamead: 50-75 years old. Wannamead is the presumptive GOP candidate for US President. He is a single below the knee amputee and the first customer of Ottobock. He is secretly having an affair with Rufus.
