BREAKDOWN
Antonio Salieri - (plays himself in his late 30s-40s and also mid-70s) Wry, charming, sophisticated and resentful of Mozart's god-given abilities. As narrator of the play, Salieri leads the audience through the story. Requires excellent language and vocal skills.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - High-strung, childish, giggly, profane and vulgar, yet genuinely innocent. Physical theater training a plus.
Constanze Weber - Lively and lusty wife to Mozart. Beautiful and appealing as well as coarse and common. Musical background a plus. Several of her speeches are timed with Mozart's music.
Joseph II: Amiable - short attention-spanned Emperor of Austria. The brother of Marie Antoinette. A Cheerful, dapper, pleased with himself individual.
Count Orsini-Rosenberg - Supercilious and portly opera director. Grand and slightly pretentious.
Baron Van Swieten - Solemn and doctrinaire, Prefect of the Imperial Library. Ardent Freemason, lover of old music and probably lacking any sense of humor.
Venticelli #1 and Venticelli #2 - The Venticelli are purveyors of fact, rumors and gossip throughout the play. They are the eyes and ears of Salieri. They often function as one mind.
- The cast includes several silent parts as Salieri's valet, cook, wife, a priest, Giuseppe Bono, citizens of Vienna and servants. These parts will create an ensemble and chorus that together drive the action of the play.
Major Domo - Efficient court servant. First Kappelmeister before Salieri.
Katherina Cavalieri - non-speaking role, Salieri's pupil and, later, mistress.
Teresa Salieri - non-speaking role, the wife of Salieri, a serious woman.
Salieri's Cook - non-speaking role
Salieri's Valet - non-speaking role
Guiseppe Bonno - non-speaking role
