BREAKDOWN

ARCADIO ROGERS RODRÍGUEZ

Painter, late forties/early fifties. Born in Mexico and immigrated to Texas when very young. Early triumphs launched a career that is on the verge of burnout/stagnation. Linguistically he is a heritage speaker, having grown up with Spanish as a child but feels more competent in English.

LUKE LUCAS

An art dealer, fairly well established and for some years the proprietor of the Lucas Art Gallery. Age may vary: at least 30.

MAMÁ

Arcadio's late mother, forever stuck between Brownsville and Matamoros. Native Spanish speaker (text has dialogues in Spanish). English is still heavily accented. She could be anywhere between 40 and 70 years old when she appears to him.

MODEL

From a local talent agency. Communicates by signing.

MUSE

Not your typical fairy godmother. Spanish fluency necessary.

MARY

Arcadio's ex. May be played by same actress as either Mama or Model. Age: 35-45.
