CAST

A TALE OF TWO CITIES

Contract, LORT B

Adopted from Charles Dickens

Written by Brendan Pelsue

Directed by Leora Morris

First Rehearsal: January 16

Closing: March 17

A Tale of Two Cities relies on self-conscious theatrical doubling––there is a conspicuous gap between actor and character. Each actor's set of roles inhabit positions of power and positions of powerlessness. The ingénue also plays the evil marquis. The committed revolutionary also plays the king. This allows for freedom of casting. The performers do not need to share the gender identity, sex, age, race, ethnicity, or physical ability of the characters they play. The cast of any production of this play should reflect the place in which it is produced. And in doing so, the play can ask the question of what it means to occupy any role in a world that badly needs to change.
