KINGDOM UNDONE by Jeremiah Gamble, Music and Lyrics by Jeremiah and Vanessa Gamble

First Rehearsal: February 20, 2024
Performances: March 13-30, 2024

SEEKING:

[Note: All roles will play assorted Ensemble parts in addition to their main role(s).]

JUDAS: Male 20s. One of Jesus’s disciples. A born leader. Ambitious. Charismatic. Full of ideas and
the will to implement them. Used to be a leader of a violent group of Zealot rebels, but he’s traded in
hot-headed activism for level-headed political approach. Devoutly religious, almost superstitious.

ISAAC: Male in late teens. An idealist. Activist. Has an innocence and honesty about him. Recently
lost his family and land to the Romans, so anger and revenge are largely driving him now.

JESUS: Male 30s. He is deeply present. Actively compassionate. He believes he is Messiah and
believes he is the Son of God, but part of fulfilling his mission and identity is electing to empty himself of his power, so he doesn’t know everything and can’t do anything – though he feels a growing desire
to “fix it all.”

MAGDALENA: Female 30s. She’s a wounded healer. The scars from her past don’t define her, but
they are part of her. Deeply present, unpredictable, lively, effervescent, yet has such a peace and
groundedness. Not religious. Goes overboard on the whole grace and mercy thing.

PETER: Male 20s. The only thing he’s consistent at is being inconsistent. Compulsive, impetuous,
enthusiastic, prone to making mistakes. He wants so badly to set an example, but rarely thinks
through his actions.

JAMES/CAIAPHAS: James (Male 20s) doesn’t take himself, or others, very seriously. A bit of an
instigator. He likes being a contrarian, especially to his younger brother, John. Lives out loud.
Caiaphas (Male 40s) is a shrewd politician. Devoutly religious. Carefully maneuvers to balance the
conflicting needs of Rome and the Jewish people.

JOHN: Male 20s. Kind. Attention to needs of others. Bit of a worrier and over-thinker. More
responsible and mature than his older brother, James. John is quick to embrace people.

MARY: Female 50s. Mary mothers everyone. Full of passion. It seems like nothing would get done
without her. Always had a bit of an irreverent streak. She believes her son is the chosen one, but also
believes Jesus is going to break her heart, and is bracing herself.

JOANNA/ANGEL: Joanna (Female 40s) tends to be a bit of a pragmatist. A sharp mind and sharp tongue. Has an edge of bitterness, but can be the life of the party if she gets past her self- consciousness. Her moods swing rather wide. Angel expresses her ministrations through movement and dance.

SADDUCE/ZACCHAEUS: Male 40s. Sadducee really acts more like a politician or law enforcement
than a religious leader. Willing to “blur the lines” to get the job done. Zacchaeus is a tax-collector.
Acerbic. Socially awkward. Deep down feels a sense of guilt because he’s a Jewish man working for
the Roman oppressors.

PHARISEE/CENTURION: Male 40s. Pharisee is a working class teacher of the law. Doesn’t like
politics. Acts like a pastor. Centurion rose to his rank by outshining the others. Loyal. Intimidating, but
in a poised, controlled fashion. Strong moral code.

ACHAN/LAZARUS/PONTIUS PILATE: Male 40-50s. Achan is a high-ranking Zealot. An extremist and
“ends-justify-the-means” kinda guy. Lazarus is a follower of Jesus. Boisterous. Recently raised from
the dead and loves to joke about it. Pontius Pilate is the Roman governor of Judea. Hates the job, but
must perform well to get promoted and relocated elsewhere.
