The Detroit Repertory Theatre Presents the World Premiere of THE HOUSE ON POE STREET

The Detroit Repertory Theatre announces the world premiere production of The House on Poe Street by Fengar Gael, opening Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 8:30 pm. Opening Nights at the Detroit Repertory Theatre are always Champagne Celebrations. Patrons are invited to stay after the performance and enjoy a champagne afterglow with the playwright, composer, cast and crew.

Tickets for opening night, and all performances, remain the lowest for professional theatre in the region, $17 - $20, and can be purchased by calling the Theatre box office at (313) 868-1347 or online at detroitreptheatre.com Group rates are also available with deeper discounts. The House on Poe Street will run Thursdays through Sundays, January 10 to March 17, 2019. The 62 year old Detroit Repertory Theatre is located in the exact center of the city of Detroit. Parking is adjacent, attended, fenced-in and free.

The House on Poe Street, weaves science fiction, fantasy, and horror into this dark comedic tale about twins' plans to feminize the world. "Less men equals less violence."

Mendel Steingold, a real estate lawyer happily in the "one percent," addresses his investment club as he tells the tale of when he was handed the keys to the estate of a
?renowned and controversial gene-editing scientist. Twin sisters with extraordinary talents for harmonizing, analyzing, theorizing and memorizing have inherited the house, reputed to have been where Poe wrote "The Raven." They want Mendel's help to use their powers for good and to make a difference in this world.
As Mendel, and his fiancée and friends are drawn into the twins' world and the house of Edgar Allan Poe, he begins to unravel, and his comfortable, masculine, life becomes threatened.

The House on Poe Street by Fengar Gael with original music composed by Sheilah Rae is directed by Leah Smith. Ms. Smith also directed Ms. Gael's Devil Dog Six which earned nods as one of the best productions on Detroit area stages from the Detroit Free Press.

The cast includes Michael Lopetrone, Ashley M. Lyle, Sara Catheryn Wolf, Mackenzie Stephens, Jonathan Jones, Calvin Biggs, Jr. and Harold Jurkiewicz.

The production team includes Harry Wetzel as Stage Manager, Set and Prop Designer, Light Design by Thomas Schraeder, Sound Design by Burr Huntington , and Costume Design by Anthony Toney.
