Leyla McCalla Brings Her First Full Band Tour To Arden

Leyla McCalla truly is one of a kind. A New York-born Haitian-American living in New Orleans, who sings in French, Haitian Creole and English, and plays cello, tenor banjo and guitar.

After starting her career as the cellist in the Carolina Chocolate Drops, she set out to pursue her own artistic vision in 2013.

Her first album was named 'Album Of The Year' by the London Sunday Times and Songlines Magazine in 2014.

Deeply influenced by traditional Creole, Cajun and Haitian music, as well as by American jazz and folk, her music is at once earthy, elegant, soulful and witty - it vibrates with three centuries of history, yet also feels strikingly fresh, distinctive and contemporary.

Her forthcoming album, "Capitalist Blues", was recorded in New Orleans and is her first album with a band. She's touring with a full band that will appear with her in Arden. Award-winning singer songwriter Kipyn Martin opens. The show starts at 8 p.m.

Tickets for this all-ages show are $20 for the general public and $15 for Arden Club members. Tickets are available at ardenconcerts.com or at Between Books in Claymont.
