BWW Previews: SHE LOVES ME at Candlelight Music Theatre

A bonified, old fashioned musical, SHE LOVES ME, opens at Candlelight on Nov 17 through Dec 23.

SHE LOVES ME is the perfect way to re-discover your Christmas spirit. Set in a shop in 1930s Budapest, it is a warm romantic comedy with an endearing innocence.

An adaption of the play by Miklós László, it had many film iterations, including the Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullivan film, THE SHOP AROUND THE CORNER; the Van Johnson and Judy Garland film (her name keeps popping up), IN THE GOOD OLD SUMMERTIME; and the mega-popular 1998 film starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan - YOU'VE GOT MAIL.

Book writer Joe Masteroff wrote only two major hits in his life, this and CABARET. As they say, you only need one so he did good. The music is by Harnick and Bock of FIDDLER fame. The musical garnered a total of 21 Tony nominations in the original and revivals.

The plot revolves around two shop clerks who are constantly at odds with each other and unaware that each is the other's romantic pen pal from a lonely hearts ad. Directed and choreographed by Renee Dobson, SHE LOVES ME features Nicole Renna and Jared Calhoun as shop clerks Amalia Balash and Georg Nowack. Paul McElwee is shop owner Mr. Maraczek. Jacob Schrimpf is Arpad, a young delivery boy; Max Redman is salesman Ladislov Sipos; Victoria Healy is Ilona Ritter who is having an affair with the suave Steven Kodaly played by Andy Spinosi.

The ensemble features Julianna Babb, Faith Sacher, Mike Sokolowski, Alexa Wilder, Cody Palmer, Michael Kiliany, Lindsay Mauck, and Colleen Murphy.

The Creative Crew is composed of Doug Lutz -Vocal Musical Director, Tara Bowers - Costumer, Jeff Reim - Set Design, Matthew Kator - Lighting Designer - Sound Design - a/k/a the living legend..."The Sultan of Sound" - Dennis Mahoney.

Candlelight is the best theatrical value in the state! Dinner and theatre. And, their mash potatoes rank #1, Aisle Say!
