Steven D. Morris Named Executive Producer of Theatre Arlington

Theatre Arlington Board President, Dr. Aaron Reich, is thrilled to announce that Steven D. Morris has a new title. After a unanimous vote in their Tuesday, November 27th board meeting, Morris will be the permanent Executive Producer of Theatre Arlington, effective immediately. "Steve has demonstrated tremendous leadership and artistic excellence during his 6 month tenure earning him the permanent top spot at the Theatre," says Reich. "His passion and energy have led to superior quality productions and a renewal of excitement about the Theatre for the staff, the acting community, the Board and Arlington in general."

On June 8, 2018, Morris, retired theatre director of 27 years at Arlington's Lamar High School, joined the theater as Interim Executive Producer. Morris, who earned his B.A. in Communications from University of Texas at Arlington, an M.A. in Theatre from the University of Houston and is also the namesake of the Steven D. Morris Auditorium at Lamar, has brought his own unique talents and gifts to Theatre Arlington. He is, of course, no stranger to the local theater scene, having been associated with Theatre Arlington in one way or another since 1977. At 16, he began ushering shows at the theater so he could see the productions for free and earn Thespian points for school. In 1981, he auditioned and was cast as Hero in his first show at Theatre Arlington, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum in the old Division Street church building. He enjoyed it so much, he kept coming back. In 1984, he became the theater's first Director of Children's Theater," co-writing original musicals with his friend, Don Powers, because he was disappointed by the lack of quality material for youth programming. In fact, one of his early creations, The Magical City of Oz, was recently re-produced this season on the Main Street stage, entertaining a new generation of theater-goers.

Morris, who has now directed, acted in or written more than 60 shows at Theatre Arlington, is looking forward to this exciting new chapter, or rather Act, at the Theatre. "I have loved Theatre Arlington for over 40 years and I am honored to be able to serve in this capacity," says Morris. "I am thrilled to work with this wonderful Board of Directors, the amazing Theatre Guild and the incredible staff to continue to build a superior quality theatre and educational programing for our community."

Theatre Arlington is celebrating their 46th anniversary this season and the corner of Main and West has never been more abuzz with energy, enthusiasm and a positive outlook on the future than now. The Theatre and the community are proud to have Steven D. Morris at the helm and have welcomed him with open arms. Board member, Craig Lidell says, "Steve's positive attitude, kindness, worth ethic, sense of humor and his sense of gratitude to everyone involved with Theatre Arlington are all traits he brings to the table. We are proud to have him become the 'face' of Theatre Arlington in our community."
