CATCO will open its 2022-23 season Nov. 3-20 with a spirited and revolutionary love story celebrating Yiddish language and literature written by celebrated Pulitzer-Prize winning playwright Paula Vogel.
CATCO's presentation of the musical HEAD OVER HEELS may be the ultimate May-December romance with an age gap of nearly 400 years. The production takes Arcadia, a 16th century play written by Sir Phillip Sidney and remixes it with the music of the Go Gos, a 1980s all-girl quintet. The musical, which debuted at the Oregon Shakespearean Festival in 2015, then throws a spotlight on transgender relationships and current sexual politics.
The hits of The Go-Gos fuel a non-stop joyride in this lively new musical Entertainment Weekly calls “a giddy neon anthem of acceptance.” Set in the kingdom of Arcadia, Head Over Heels offers a fresh update on Sir Phillip Sidney’s classic romance, The Arcadia, challenging the boundaries of gender, class and social institutions and exuberantly celebrating love and gender in all of its forms. The royal family and court take an outrageous journey to save their kingdom, only to discover “the beat” lies within each of them. Recommended for ages 13 and up.
