On a dusty road between Backwards and Conspiratorial lies a town called Progress; where Ida, the mayor, hopes to create a utopia where the women are on top. Only - the water pump doesn’t work, the tumbleweeds have eyes, and the new citizens have other notions. Vivian wants to make a baby, Slim wants to make money, and Weed is up for anything as long as there is bacon. Chicago playwright Trina Kakacek’s modern day fable explores the stories we tell ourselves about gender, economics, and family in this world premiere comedy.
Promethean Theatre Ensemble has announced dates and casting for its world premiere production of A TOWN CALLED PROGRESS, by Chicago playwright Trina Kakacek.
The Den Theatre announced today it will remain closed through May 3, 2020, in response to the latest stay-at-home order issued by Governor J.B. Pritzker in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The closure includes The Haven Lounge.
The rights and roles of women in society will be examined in Promethean Theatre Ensemble's 2019-20 season via three plays all penned or adapted by women. The first two will revisit the early years of women's suffrage in late 19th Century Great Britain, while the season closer will imagine a totally new society set some time and place in the future.
