Court Theatre will present Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead by Tom Stoppard, directed by Marilyn F. Vitale, running March 29 – April 21, 2024. See photos from the production below.

Director Charles Newell turns his expert eye to Tom Stoppard once more. His deconstructed interpretation of one of Stoppard’s earliest and best-known works propels the story forward with newfound immediacy. And, in s Rush Jr. (The Player); Blake Hamilton Currie (Hamlet); Rob Lindley (Polonius); Charence Higgins (Ophelia); Amir Abdullah (Claudius); and Elizabeth Ledo (Gertrude). 

The creative team includes John Culbert (scenic design); Raquel Adorno (costume design); Keith Parham (lighting design); Andre Pluess (sound design); Marissa Fenley (production dramaturg); Becca McCracken (casting director); Kate Ocker (stage manager); and Kira Neighbors (assistant stage manager). 

Everyone dies, but not everyone’s death is pre-ordained by Shakespeare. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead puts the spotlight on two of Shakespeare’s minor characters as they wrestle with fundamental, pressing questions of identity, loss, fate, friendship, and the absurdity of existence. As they hurtle towards their imminent demise, Rosencrantzo doing, Newell unveils the emotional in the existential and urges us to reconsider what we know about Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Hamlet, and perhaps even Tom Stoppard himself.

Court Theatre, under the continuing leadership of Marilyn F. Vitale Artistic Director Charles Newell and Executive Director Angel Ysaguirre, is proud to present Tom Stoppard’s modern masterpiece, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. Directed by Marilyn F. Vitale Artistic Director Charles Newell, this production continues Court Theatre’s close relationship with Tom Stoppard’s work. This production will run March 29 – April 21, 2024 at Court Theatre, 5535 S. Ellis Ave. 

The cast of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead includes Nate Burger (Rosencrantz); Erik Hellman (Guildenstern); Lorenzo and Guildenstern unlock what it means to be truly alive.
