Tonight, the 43rd Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards ceremony and award presentation hosted by Craig Lauzon occurred at the TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning, Koerner Hall.

PlayGround-LA has announced the selected plays and playwrights for the eleventh annual ten-minute play fest, BEST OF PLAYGROUND-LA GALA!

Shakespeare in Action, a theatre arts and education company that calls Toronto's Weston community its home, has been announced as the lead organization for the City of Toronto's Youth Vaccine Engagement Strategy grant in Toronto's West quadrant.

With the support from Canadian Heritage, Shakespeare in Action is producing a free three-day event inside Central United Church, just in time for its 200th anniversary in Weston! Guests will have the chance to roam through the halls of the Church and experience art and live performance as they please, at Central United Church this March, all around the title.

Alphonse, a one-person show by Canada's most acclaimed contemporary playwright Wajdi Mouawad, will be returning to Toronto and other venues across Ontario this summer, including Barrie's Talk is Free Theatre, Huntsville Festival of the Arts, and Brampton's Rose Theatre. It will be performed by Gabe Maharajan (they/them) and artistic directed by multi-award-winning Alon Nashman (he/him). 

Alphonse, by Canadaa??s most acclaimed contemporary playwright Wajdi Mouawad, will be performed by multi-award winning performers Kaleb Alexander & Alon Nashman in what will be the Toronto's first live in-person performance of a play since COVID-19 closed stage doors back in March.

As Shakespeare in Action prepares to open their inaugural outdoor production of A Midsummer Night's Dream in the Weston community, news of recent carding by the Canadian Border Service Agency in the area has spurred the company to spotlight this issue. 

Shakespeare in Action continues its inaugural season as Weston's resident theatre company with Shakespeare in the Shell! This season the hilariously beautiful A Midsummer Night's Dream will take place under the open sky and play July 16-28 in Little Avenue Memorial Park in Weston. All performances are FREE, thereby fulfilling S.I.A.'s longtime wish of bringing truly accessible theatre to the previously underserved community of northwest Toronto.

At a press conference held May 28 in the Davies Takacs Lobby of the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre Centre, the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) announced 282 nominations for the 40th Anniversary Dora Mavor Moore Awards, which recognize excellence in professional theatre, dance and opera in Toronto. On Tuesday, June 25 at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, 49 Dora Mavor Moore Awards, the Silver Ticket Award and the Jon Kaplan Audience Choice Award will be presented.
