Quentin Crisp: Naked Hope Comes To Feinstein's/54 Below

West End actor Mark Farrelly (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?) brings his hugely-acclaimed solo play Quentin Crisp: Naked Hope to Feinstein's/54 Below direct from a major UK tour for its first ever American performances. Naked Hope magically brings back to life one of the most memorable wits of the twentieth century. Quentin Crisp (1908 - 1999) spent years in London being beaten because of his sexuality, and famously never cleaned his flat because "after the first four years the dust doesn't get any worse." When portrayed by John Hurt in landmark film The Naked Civil Servant, Quentin became a star, moved to America, and was embraced as the original Englishman In New York, immortalized in the hit song by Sting. Naked Hope depicts Quentin's life in London and New York, recreating the legendary An Evening With Quentin Crisp. Expect laughter, pathos, and deep truth in this uplifting salute to the courage of the human spirit to be itself... no matter what they say.

Directed by Linda Marlowe, whose screen credits include Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy opposite Gary Oldman.

Mark Farrelly is a highly acclaimed actor and writer based in London. A graduate of Cambridge University, his many West End credits include Nick in Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (Trafalgar Studios). His first solo play as writer / performer was The Silence of Snow: The Life of Patrick Hamilton, chronicling the tempestuous life of the author of Rope and Gaslight. It received rave reviews, with The Times commenting "You won't be able to take your eyes off this magnetic actor Mark Farrelly". The show has toured the UK ever since. Farrelly's follow up, Quentin Crisp: Naked Hope, is a much-praised portrait of the legendary wit and survivor. Opening at the Off-West End St. James's Theatre, it has toured extensively across the UK, with Time Out London commenting "Farrelly's mastery of his audience is total". The opening night at 54 Below will be the 100th performance. 2019 sees another major UK tour of both solo plays, and the debut of a new show, a study of controversial film maker Derek Jarman.
