D.J. Caruso in Talks to Direct ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK?

D.J. Caruso is in talks to direct Are You Afraid of the Dark?, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Paramount Players is producing the big-screen take on the 1990s anthology series.

Gary Dauberman wrote the script and will produce the project.

Afraid of the Dark were campfire tales told by a group of teens who called themselves the Midnight Society. The tales ranged from modern takes on fairy tales to stories involving creatures such as vampires and aliens.

The show was a Canadian series that got picked up by Nickelodeon and aired as part of its Saturday night block. The movie version is intended to be darker and scarier.

Caruso most recently directed xx: The Return of Xander Cage. He made a name for himself directing the Shia Labeouf-starring thrillers Disturbia and Eagle Eye.
