BWW Recap: Elseworlds Kicks Off on THE FLASH

The Flash, on a Sunday? What's going on? Well, it's the first hour of this year's epic Arrowverse crossover event, Elseworlds. This year, there are gods from other Earths, killer robots, and all of our favourite superheroes in the Arrowverse and it's just a whole lot of fun.

It all begins when The Monitor arrives from Earth-90 and gives crazy psychiatrist Dr. John Deegan the Book of Destiny and tells him to rewrite reality as he sees fit. Then reality starts to change. When Oliver wakes up in bed in BARRY and Iris's bed, something is clearly wrong. And Iris keeps calling Oliver, Barry. Oliver discovers that he has The Flash's power and rushes off to Star City to find Barry, who is now Oliver and training as the Green Arrow.

The two of them can't figure out why or how they've switched bodies so they turn to Team Flash at S.T.A.R. Labs. Unfortunately, no one believes them and locks them in the pipeline. But they need to get out of there. Oliver teaches BARRY to dislocate his thumb to get out of handcuffs so he can turn off the power dampeners and BARRY teaches Oliver to phase so they get out of the cell.

Once they're out, they decide to jump to Earth-38. When they go to get the extrapolator, they run into Iris. BARRY gets emotional and begs Iris to see that they are telling the truth and that they have switched bodies. BARRY tells Iris she is his lightning rod and she lets them go.

Barry and Oliver jump through the breach to the Kent farm in Smallville, Kansas on Earth-38 where Kara, Clark, and Lois Lane are hanging out. Thankfully, Kara sees BARRY as BARRY and Oliver as Oliver and they explain the body-switching situation. No one can figure out what's going on or why this is happening. Finding themselves with some downtime, BARRY and Oliver use the time on the farm to train and get to know each other and each others' powers. Learning each others' powers might be more difficult because BARRY explains that his speed is based on hope and Oliver tells BARRY his powers are based on anger so they really need to work on channelling these emotions they rarely choose to feel if they're going to be stuck like this for a while. Arguably the best moment in the episode occurs when BARRY shoots Oliver in the back with two arrows, exacting his revenge for the last time they trained together way back in Season 1 when Oliver did the exact same thing to Barry.

Then Cisco appears on Earth-38 and tells the heroes that a) he believes that BARRY and Oliver have switched bodies and b) there's a killer robot (Amazo) on Earth-1 who is stealing everyone's powers and wreaking havoc in Central City. Together the heroes work to take down Amazo while Amazo tries to take their powers. Sherloque points out that Amazo is a computer so they can just hack into him and turn him off. Cisco creates a virus that BARRY shoots at Amazo while the others hold him down and Amazo explodes.

But the problem still isn't solved, BARRY is still Oliver and Oliver is still Barry. Cisco tells the team about the vibes he had and shows BARRY and Oliver. In the vibe, The Monitor warns that none of them can stop what's about to happen.

So what is about to happen? Tune in to Arrow on December 9 and Supergirl on December 10 to see how it all turns out.
