About The Artists

Praised by the Baltimore Sun for combining "smoothly meshed technique with a sense of spontaneity and discovery," the Aeolus Quartet is committed to presenting time-seasoned masterworks and new cutting-edge works to diverse audiences with equal freshness, dedication, and fervor. Formed in 2008, the Quartet is comprised of violinists Nicholas Tavani and Rachel Shapiro, violist Caitlin Lynch, and cellist Alan Richardson. The all-American quartet has received prizes at nearly every major competition in the United States and performed across the globe with showings "worthy of a major-league quartet" (Scott Cantrell, Dallas Morning News). They were the 2013-2015 Graduate Resident String Quartet at the Juilliard School, and they currently make their home in New York City. The Quartet's 2018-19 season includes a collaboration with the Smithsonian's Freer Gallery of Art featuring dancers from the Mark Morris Dance Group, a residency with the Chamber Music Society of Detroit, and extensive touring throughout the United States. In summer 2019, the Quartet will be featured at the Artosphere Festival presented by the Walton Arts Center.

Hailed as a "promising composer" by the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Alexandra T Bryant has been lauded for her "ability to convey myriad moods through clear thematic materials and coloristic contrasts." She has received commissions from the Kronos Quartet, William Preucil, the Aeolus Quartet in collaboration with the Friends of Chamber Music of Reading with the NEA, The Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, the Santa Fe Youth Symphony Orchestra Association, the Tacoma Youth Symphony Association, The Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies, KINETIC, Katherine Murdock and Mark Hill, Duo Scordatura, and the Metropolitan Ballet Theatre & Academy. Alexandra has served on the faculty of the Luzerne Music Center as composer-in-residence and participated in the Cabrillo Festival.

Dr. Bryant is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music, Shepherd School of Music, and the University of Maryland. She currently lives in the greater Twin Cities with her husband, Nicholas, son Cole, and their dog, Maple and is currently Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Theory and Composition at Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, MN.
