Anne-Sophie Mutter Embarks on North American Recital Tour

-Anne-Sophie Mutter, one of the world's greatest and most beloved classical artists, embarks on a six-city North American recital tour playing the works of Beethoven, Debussy, Mozart, Poulenc and Ravel, and a new work by Sebastian Currier, March 6 through 17, 2019. Mutter will be joined by her longtime collaborator pianist Lambert Orkis for all six recital appearances. On March 12, Mutter will return to Carnegie Hall for her only 2018-19 season appearance in New York, performing the world premiere of Sebastian Currier's new Ghost Trio for Piano Trio, followed by the Chicago premiere of the work on March 17. Ghost Trio is the fourth work by Sebastian Currier that Mutter has both commissioned and premiered. Later this season, Mutter will play Mozart Violin Concertos with the Chamber Orchestra Vienna-Berlin on a tour of Europe and in Costa Mesa, California, followed by two special concerts at the Tanglewood Festival featuring works by André Previn and John Williams in July.

Anne-Sophie Mutter's 2019 North American recital tour kicks off with three performances in California, beginning with the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles on March 6, and continuing with performances at the Santa Barbara Performing Arts Center in Santa Barbara on March 8, and at Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco on March 10. Each program features Mozart's Sonata for Piano and Violin No. 21 in E minor K.304 and Sonata for Piano and Violin No. 32 in B-flat Major K.45, Ravel's Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 2 [1927], Debussy's Sonata for Violin and Piano, and Poulenc's Sonata for Violin and Piano, all with her longtime piano partner Lambert Orkis.

On March 12, Mutter will return to New York's Carnegie Hall where in March 2018 she gave the world premiere of André Previn's The Fifth Season. A dedicated champion of new music and contemporary composers, Mutter's appearance will again feature a world premiere: Sebastian Currier's Ghost Trio for Piano Trio. Mutter has long been an advocate of Currier's music, and Ghost Trio marks the fourth work written for her by the composer. Previously, Mutter performed the world premieres of Currier's Aftersong (1994), Time Machines (2007), and Ringtone Variations (2011). The program will also include Mozart's Sonata for Piano and Violin in E Minor and his Sonata for Piano and Violin in B-flat Major, K. 45, Debussy's Sonata for Violin and Piano, and Poulenc's Sonata for Violin and Piano with Orkis. Mutter will be joined by Orkis and cellist Daniel Müller-Schott for Currier's new piece Ghost Trio for Piano Trio. Müller-Schott was a longtime Fellow of the Foundation, through which Mutter supports and mentors the next generation of string players.

Following Carnegie Hall, Mutter and Orkis will travel to Canada, reprising the all-violin sonata program at La Maison Symphonique in Montréal on March 15. The North American tour concludes on March 17 at Chicago's Symphony Center. Together with Müller-Schott and Orkis, Mutter will present the Chicago premiere of Currier's Ghost Trio for Piano Trio paired with Piano Trio for Piano, Violin, and Cello in D Major, Op. 70, No.1 "Ghost," as well as Mozart's Sonata for Piano and Violin in E minor, Ravel's Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 2 [1927], and Poulenc's Sonata for Violin and Piano.

In May 2019, Mutter will join the Chamber Orchestra Vienna-Berlin in an extensive tour of Central and Western Europe between May 6 and June 1, 2019 playing Mozart's Violin Concertos with concerts in Bratislava, Munich, Cologne, Hamburg, Berlin, as well as Malaga, Valencia, and San Sebastian, Spain, and Athens, Greece, among others. In June 2019, Mutter will reunite with the Chamber Orchestra Vienna-Berlin for a performance at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, California on June 25, again featuring Mozart's Violin Concertos.

Mutter will return to the United States in July 2019 for a weekend of two special concerts on July 6 and 7 at this summer's Tanglewood Festival in Massachusetts. On July 6, Mutter will join the Boston Symphony Orchestra and music director Andris Nelsons in a concert celebrating André Previn's 90th birthday with a performance of Previn's Violin Concerto "Anne-Sophie" from 2001. The following day, July 7, Mutter and the Boston Pops Orchestra will give the first complete performance of Across the Stars, a program of new arrangements of film scores by John Williams, including Star Wars, Schindler's List, Memoirs of a Geisha, Munich, and more. Mutter will perform these selections in special arrangements prepared especially for her by Williams, which will be included on her forthcoming album, Across the Stars, dedicated to the works of John Williams. Another performance of Across the Stars will take place on September 14 at Munich's Königsplatz, marking her first-ever open air concert.
