Brooklyn, New York - May 2019 - Falconworks Theater Company is proud to announce its 2019 Mainstage production of I Migration, an original play about immigration, its surrounding opinions, and what it truly means to be an American.

Developed and directed by Falconworks Artistic Director Reg Flowers, working with composer Alex Siesse and choreographer Thaddaeus Abbott, I Migration will create a narrative from historical sources and current oral histories. Presented at Red Hooks Waterfront Museum on New Yorks Harbor, within sight of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, the play will use storytelling, music, and imagery to challenge current, and sometimes hostile, views regarding immigration and immigrants. By demonstrating our collective status as descendants of migrants of one form or other, this production implores us to examine our own place in the fabric of America. The plays theme was selected in response to the onslaught of political rhetoric and policies, which in the past several years, has characterized immigrants narrowly as undesirables, without value, and even as criminals. Like all of Falconworks productions, the performance will implicate the audience in the action, dissolving the boundary between spectator and actor. This will be the seventh consecutive year Falconworks is presenting a site-specific performance focused on current issues. Flowers, Abbott, and Siesse previously collaborated on Ready, Set, Go! Race an exploration of the history of racial identity that played to sold-out houses in 2017. Falconworks was selected as New York Citys Best Community Theater by the Village Voice in 2016, and its production of Enemy of the People was named one of New Yorks best site-specific productions in 2013 by The L Magazine.

I Migration will be presented at the historic Waterfront Museum and Showboat Barge, located on the Red Hook waterfront aboard Lehigh Valley Railroad Barge #79. The barge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the only surviving example of The Lighterage Age (1860-1960) when goods were transported across the harbor by the railroad navys tug and barge fleet. As the stage itself ebbs and flows with the waves, mirroring the experiences of those who journeyed to America, this immersive theater experience is unlike any other.

Falconworks Artists Group's mission is to empower individuals and communities through theater in order to effect social change. Falconworks achieves its aims through theater workshops that cultivate participants' ability to tell their and their communities' stories directly to diverse local audiences. This production builds on our commitment to provide world-class theater of cultural significance to our diverse community; provide opportunities for growing our community of artists; and to provide a training resource to community members, especially our youth company members.

"In a time when our differences are being used to divide us," says Yadira De La Riva, actress in our upcoming production, "I Migration is bringing us together, reminding us that we are one. I'm grateful to be part of this experience!"

"I Migration is a one of a kind production. It's the type of play that speaks such volumes with its basis and message - it not only entertains, but it inspires, and has the power to bring true emotion out of people." -Jayraj Gill, Actor in I Migration. "In today's day and age, we are surrounded by differences, judgments, crime, negativity, etc, etc. I Migration disregards all of that and utilizes the only common language that everyone in the world can understand: love. It is an honor to be a part of this production."

I Migration will open Thursday, May 16, 2019, and will run for two consecutive weekends through May 27. Thurs. Sun., May 16 19 & May 23 26 at 7pm. Sunday, May 19 & May 26 at 3pm. Monday, May 28 at 2pm. The Waterfront Museum and Showboat Barge is located at 290 Conover St, Brooklyn, NY 11231. The Waterfront Museum is fully accessible to persons with disabilities.
