"Wire and Bone”: CD release concert with Dave Bryant (keys/host), Jamaaladeen Tacuma (bass), George Garzone (tenor sax), Kenny Wessel (guitar), Eric Hofbauer (guitar), and Chris Bowman (drums).
Dave Bryant first convened the quartet of Jamaaladeen Tacuma (bass), George Garzone (tenor sax), and Chris Bowman (drums) in 1989 for a weekend at the now-defunct Willow Jazz Club in Somerville MA. They reunited some 29 years later for a December 2018 recording session that has resulted in their new release, “Wire and Bone.”
They are joined on the recording by guitarists Kenny Wessel and Eric Hofbauer. All six musicians will be appearing together at May’s “Third Thursdays” concert.
Bryant notes, “I’m really thrilled to bring together these wonderful musicians with whom I’ve cemented strong relationships over many years: Jamaaladeen, a mentor from my earliest days studying with Ornette Coleman in the ‘80s; George, a favorite teacher and mentor at Berklee; Chris, a Berklee classmate and longtime bandmate in the Shock Exchange trio; Kenny, a close colleague in Ornette Coleman’s Prime Time; and Eric, a collaborator on several more recent projects and our Jazz Department Head at the Longy School of Music of Bard College. We have all worked together in many different configurations, and enjoyed great friendships. This should be a very special evening!”
