Emerson/Paramount Mainstage:
ArtsEmerson, Boston's leading presenter of contemporary world theater and film and the professional presenting and producing organization of Emerson College, is thrilled to welcome back Toshi Reagon and Octavia E. Butler's Parable of the Sower. This masterful adaptation of Octavia E. Butler's award-winning masterpiece will play a very limited engagement with four performances only from April 21– 24, 2022 at the Emerson Cutler Majestic Theatre.
ArtsEmerson will be holding a Virtual 21/22 Season Preview Event on Tuesday, August 3 at 5:00 PM ET, where more detailed information will be shared about all announced events.
ArtsEmerson has announced Seed to Harvest: The Wooden Book. Seed to Harvest is a touring book project where the community writes the pages; in collaboration with artist-in-residence, Toshi Reagon’s Parable Path Boston, the Traces/Remain ensemble invites the public to join on a Sower’s journey that uses memories as medicine.
Toshi Reagon didn't go to college herself, but when her mother, Bernice Johnson Reagon, was tapped by Toni Morrison (yes, that Toni Morrison) to teach a creative course at Princeton, Bernice explained that she would accept the position if her daughter could teach collaboratively alongside her.
ArtsEmerson, the professional presenting and producing organization at Emerson College, is thrilled to announce that renowned musician, composer, producer, and activist Toshi Reagon is launching a new community engagement initiative on May 22, which she calls Parable Path Boston, based on the tenets of Octavia E. Butler's novel The Parable of the Sower. Reagon is Emerson College's current artist-in-resident through June 2021 funded by the Fresh Sound Foundation and the Doris Duke Foundation.
ArtsEmerson is excited to announce that today it will launch its newest digital initiative, Together Apart: Explore New Worlds from Your Home, a curated series of performances previously presented by the organization in Boston, as well as new video conversations with bold and imaginative artists associated with those creations.
ArtsEmerson will not present any performances and screenings remaining in its 19/20 10th Anniversary Season, continuing its support of urgent civic efforts to flatten the curve on the spread of the infectious coronavirus (COVID-19). In this way, we stand together by standing apart.
ArtsEmerson today announces that it will suspend scheduled public gatherings beginning today, March 13, with the hope of continuing more regular activity by the end of April 2020. This decision comes in an effort to support the civic efforts in our region to flatten the curve on the spread of the infectious coronavirus (COVID-19).
ArtsEmerson, Boston's leading presenter of contemporary world theatre, proudly announces its 10th Anniversary Season featuring five new commissioned works and five reprises from six different countries. The 2019/20 season continues ArtsEmerson's commitment to international work and to contemporary artistic forms including circus, mixed media, music theatre and first person narrative all from diverse perspectives. The landmark anniversary season will feature the world premiere of Detroit Red (produced by ArtsEmerson and written by Will Power) which uplifts Malcolm X's under-examined, life-shaping experiences as a young man who called Boston home. It will also feature the U.S. Premiere of Plata Quemada (TEATROCINEMA), the gritty true story of Argentina's most daring bank heist.
