Geez, I bought a $20 ticket for May 16 since April is so packed (and because it was only $20!) but now I wonder if it’ll even make it that long!

How do they handle this on Broadway with Shows that are kinda empty. Do they let people change to better seats? In germany sometimes if a Performance doesnt sell out well they just close the balcony and everyone who had a blacony Ticket is asigned (or can pick) a different seat f.e. in the mezzanine sometimes even orchestra. Just wondering.

Back when Frozen was still on Broadway, they'd close the balcony when the show wasn't selling well.

If you see an empty seat, wait until intermission and then ask an usher if you can move. Do not move until intermission because someone in that seat could come in late.

With that said, there's no official thing theaters do when the show isn't selling well.

That's not what happened though. They were offered the chance to extend, but Josh Gad decided not to, so they stuck with the original close.

this just reminds me of all of those middling 00's shows that would come onto the scene, run for maybe 6 to 8 months and then over the course of the next ten years make a buck on high school and regional productions

In another time, maybe 20 years ago? This type of jukebox show would have at least had a fair go. This just feels like an artifact of a pre 08' recession broadway.

I know some people who went to the invited dress yesterday.  They went in with the lowest of expectations and were pleasantly surprised.  They had a great time.  Not saying that will lead to a long run, but at least some positive words.  I was expecting to hear it was terrible.

Yes they could have extended at most two weeks due to the load-in and load out schedule which he felt wasn't worth it but there was absolutely a universe of replacements if the show had the ability to become a open run which it couldn't because the theater was committed to this and the producers og HORNR didn't want a different theater

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if general word of mouth for this is better than it is for Lempicka.

False.  If Gad and Rannells had been able and willing to extend, Bob Wankel would have let them keep the JEJ and made it worth the HEART producers' while to take another building.

I feel like the best case scenario for this show is a Shucked type run. Where it gets some buzz for being a fun little show that could. Plus in a season with a lot of serious to dour new musicals, there's basically this, Hell's Kitchen and Back to the Future as far as fun goes.

Not saying this will have the same success as Shucked, which did well critically and with the Tonys, but I think that's the absolute best case scenario here. A more likely scenario is something like Head Over Heels.

It was THAT EXACT period of time, when I thought I had a cleaver idea and said to myself, "You should write a jukebox musical that's based on the music of Huey Lewis & The News!" HAHAHA!

Telecharge Runtime Accurate.

Started at 8:10 following intro speech and delayed doors opening and saw curtain call was 10:30ish.

Fun 80's pistache. Act 2 > Act 1 and audience buzz seemed noticeably more positive post show than during intermission.

Book needs tightening during previews.
