The measures imposed by the federal government on cultural activities affect many La Monnaie performances. The company has posted an overview of those performances which have been affected.
Playing the planned twelve performances of Carmen for only 200 people would result in a financial loss of 900.000€. Add to this the fact that we would only be able to sell 2.400 tickets instead of the planned 13.800, and it becomes clear that such a scenario would not meet everyone's expectations.
Carmen: or how a groundbreakingly creative opéra comique from 1875 has today become a veritable legend, feeding the collective psyche with images, preconceived ideas, and distinctive melodies. Here, you can forget the Gypsy girl, the tobacco factory, Seville and its street festivals!
