As evil as he is charming, Richard marries and murders his way to England’s crown. Appointed protector of his nephews, the two child princes who are heirs of Edward IV, Richard wrests the thrown for himself. Shakespeare has written a powerful psychological drama, a tragedy that exposes Richard’s strength, intellect, guile, insecurity and narcissism. Captivating and horrifying, the play is Shakespeare’s masterful, concluding chronicle of the Wars of the Roses. Director Ian Gallanar’s fresh vision presents the action in a WWI-inspired setting complete with barbed wire, and soldiers in gas masks.
