​​​​​​​Pioneer Theatre Company’s ELF THE MUSICAL (returning in a new professional production after its 2013 bow) is a fun holiday outing.  Directed by Sesame Street’s Alan Muraoka, it brings out the inner child in the characters, actors, and audience alike. 

Originally scheduled to play at the Eccles Theater in August 2020, the national tour of MEAN GIRLS was absolutely worth the wait.  Stuffed to the brim with laugh out loud jokes, earwormy songs, and introspective moments, and boasting top notch performances and production values, it is yet another Broadway-caliber touring production gifted to the Utah theatre community by Broadway at the Eccles.  

Like the titular car, CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG on the Hale Centre Theatre Centre Stage in Sandy is more than spectacular.  And like deliciously rousing Toot Sweets, the production is a musical morsel supreme.

The national tour of Disney’s FROZEN, which was originally scheduled to play at the Eccles Theater in April 2020, has finally made its bow more than a year and a half later.  And what a glorious way to welcome Broadway back to Salt Lake City! 

THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME at Hale Center Theater Orem is a well-crafted production of a stunningly emotional and complex musical.

One of the hallmarks of the Golden Age Technicolor musical films was the extended dream or song sequence, full of bold primary colors, stylized sets, and big movement. GUYS AND DOLLS, playing on the Hale Centre Theatre Centre Stage is an uncanny reproduction of that look and feeling, from the costumes to the scenic design to the performances. 

Roald Dahl’s MATILDA at the SCERA Shell Outdoor Theatre is a simply sensational community theatre production with solid performances, eye-popping visuals, and top-notch choreography. 

ALWAYS…PATSY CLINE on Hale Centre Theatre’s Jewel Box Stage is a love letter to the beloved singer and her pioneering brand of country, as well as both fandom and friendship. 

Disney’s TARZAN at the SCERA Shell Outdoor Theatre is all about family, not only because of its message of familial love and acceptance, but because multiple families are participating onstage and behind the scenes together.  And it’s the perfect show to gather your whole family and see together on the SCERA’s grassy hill under the stars.

Jane Austen’s EMMA at Hale Center Theater Orem is an entrancing musical romance that deftly explores character and relationships. Devotees of Jane Austen shouldn’t miss the opportunity to see this enjoyable new musical adaptation of her beloved novel.

DADDY LONG LEGS on Hale Centre Theatre’s Jewel Box Stage tugs at the heartstrings with its plucky heroine, touching music, and sweet love story. The music, characters, and story of DADDY LONG LEGS creep up on the audience and unexpectedly wash over them like nothing else.  If you’ve never seen this lovely little show, it’s a joy to experience and one that you simply cannot miss.

Be prepared to laugh a lot at the SCERA’s solid community theatre production of Monty Python’s SPAMALOT, filled with witty zingers, clever sight gags, and production numbers every bit as over-the-top as they should be.
