However The Brunswick Ballroom defies the odds and truly proves that the live performance scene in Melbourne is back in business baby! This recently refurbished Sydney Road venue, located in the old Metropolis Hotel, has been spectacularly re-envisioned with inspiration drawn from the iconic 90's Prahran music institution The Continental Cafe. The Brunswick Ballroom truly is a ' diamond in the rough' with its grand staircase leading up to the ballroom and the magnificent stained glass domes that evoke Australian artist Leonard French's work. It is sure to have a long future ahead of it as one of Melbourne's premier live performance venues, enriching Melbourne audiences with an eclectic array of domestic and international cabaret, music and comedy.

The Australian Shakespeare Company’s fantastic summer season is back, with a COVID-19 safe performance of the beloved Shakespearean comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream at The Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne.

Loren Hunter is a star! She has dazzled as Liza Minnelli in The Boy from Oz and sizzled as Seymour in Six. Hunter has also had the lucrative opportunity to appear in five world premier productions; Moonshadow, King Kong, Baz Luhrmann's Strictly Ballroom The Musical, Georgy Girl - The Seekers Musical and Evie May. Both Hunter and I are WAAPA alumni, so we had a lot of catching up to do when I scheduled our Zoom call. As a Melbournian though, I did find myself envious of her vibrant Brisbane background.

Adam Rennie is an Australian performer based out of New York City. He has performed in a wide range of musicals in Australasia, North America and Asia. Since he is currently waiting out the COVID-19 pandemic in his hometown of Sydney and I am stuck in Stage 4 restrictions in Melbourne, I seized an opportunity to catch up with him via Zoom.

While in self isolation in a Sydney hotel, I caught up via Zoom with Australian musical theatre performer Daniel Downing and deliciously divine drag queen Karla Bear. Having just returned home from their base in London, we discussed their careers and what life in quarantine has been like.

The arts industry is one that requires a tough skin to work in at the best of times. The shutdown of the Australian arts industry, due to Coronavirus (COVID-19), has highlighted why mental health is more important now, than ever before.

The coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19) has devastated the Australian theatre industry. While the closure of theatres has significantly helped fight this pandemic by ensuring social distancing, Australian arts' workers have been left with the grim reality of unemployment. Despite this sudden and unforeseen shutdown of theatre, the comradery and resilience of those working in entertainment continues to shine. This is evident in the hard work of James Cutler and Joshua Robson Productions who have ensured that the show will go on, by establishing an outstanding performance initiative called LIGHTS UP ON THE ARTS [HOME DELIVERY].

In this time of uncertainty, theatres in Australia, The West End, Broadway and around the world have gone dark in an attempt to help fight the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. This has left performers, producers, musicians and other art workers unemployed and anxious about what their future holds.

Melbourne Shakespeare Company's fresh take on one of Shakespeare's most cherished comedies, As You Like It, provides a fun and enticing outdoor theatre experience in an intimate enclave at Central Park, Malvern. Just make sure to bring your picnic blanket!

The Australian Shakespeare Company's production of Twelfth Night is a fun night out for the whole family at the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria. Best described as 'picnic theatre', make sure to bring some indulgent nibbles and bubbles to enjoy in this enchanting garden setting.

Watching Philip Quast perform at Hamer Hall, accompanied by Anne-Maree McDonald, was an absolute treat. Quast is one of Australia's most well regarded and internationally successful theatre performers. During this performance of Morning Melodies, presented by Arts Centre Melbourne, Quast shares memorable and comical stories about his incredible life and career, spanning several decades performing on the stages of Australia, The West End and Broadway.
