  3. OUT OF INK 2022: Unusual Embrace

Half-coyote/half-human teens, an improv troupe, a boy made of glass and an invisible boy. These are just a few of the embraceable characters youll encounter in ScriptWorks OUT OF INK 2022: Unusual Embrace. This stirring ten-minute play collection showcases ScriptWorks members unpredictable interpretations of three mandatory script ingredients which provided inspiration during the Weekend Fling 48-hour writing event in the fall.

This year writer-performer and Assoc. Professor in Performance as Public Practice at UT (and non-applying member), Paul Bonin-Rodriguez; Director of University Programs and Partnerships at The Playwrights Center (and former member), Sarah Myers; and Head of Playwriting/Directing at UT and Founder/CEO of theatre company American Records, KJ Sanchez contributed the following ingredients:

1) A moment when a list becomes the only means to communicate.
2) Something that cannot be seen by the human eye.
3) An unusual embrace.

At the end of the Weekend Fling, the plays were read in a virtual ScriptWorks Salon. A selection committee chose eight plays for production in Out of Ink from the thirty-plus plays that were submitted.

The Unusual Embrace scripts were written by:
Robin Anderson, Maggie Gallant, Ava Love Hanna, Andra Laine Hunter, Zac Kline, Briandaniel Oglesby, Greg Romero, and Anne Wynter. The plays will be performed by an ensemble of actors comprised of Zac Carr, Giselle De La Rosa, David DuBose, Luis Gonzales, Gina Houston, Weldon Phillips, Nguyen Stanton, Jolene Stephenson, Minerva Villa, Juleeane Villarreal, and Johanna Whitmore. Theyll be directed by Lowell Bartholomee, Carl Gonzales, Ellie McBride, Christina J. Moore, and Sharon Sparlin. Designers for the project are Lowell Bartholomee, Pam Friday, Amy Lewis, and Gary Thornsberry. Intimacy direction by Christina J. Moore.

Due to the intimate confines of the venue, all patrons are strongly encouraged to wear masks.

Please note that the production contains references that some audience members may find disturbing or triggering. This show is recommended for mature audiences.
