Update: Lin-Manuel Miranda took to Twitter this morning to clarify the report that the current cast of Broadway's HAMILTON will be filmed:

Miranda Posted:

1) Gmorning. I said we WANT to film the show with this cast before the year is out. That's all I said. There are no plans for anything yet.

2) Working on an annotated book of lyrics, a mixtape, and a way to get school kids in here all at once. On top of our schedule. We [heart] you.

3) when I announce stuff for real I PROMISE you'll know first. I am grateful for your enthusiasm because my god how lucky we are.

Last week, theater fans rejoiced at Lin-Manuel Miranda's revelation that a Hamilton mixtape was currently in the works and will be released early next year. (read more here) Today, Billboard reveals further reason to celebrate. During a talk at this weekend's New Yorker Festival, Miranda revealed that Hamilton would definitely be filmed with its current cast!

The format of the production remains unclear, but the Tony winner shared, "You-couldn't-make-it-up filmmakers have been coming to the show," and added that he has already, "talked to producers about filming this cast before this cast moves on."

Miranda also told the crowd that the HAMILTON mixtape would feature a rap battle about slavery. "It was enormously cathartic to write because you write about these men who wrote great things but also had this other legacy lived within the system that was horrible and abusive," he explains. "It just brought the show to a screeching halt."
