TV: Inside Opening Night of KING LEAR, with Glenda Jackson & More!

One of Shakespeare's greatest dramas officially returned to Broadway last night. Led by two-time Academy Award winner, two-time Emmy Award winner, and 2018 Tony Award winner Glenda Jackson, King Lear, under the direction of Sam Gold, opened at the Cort Theatre, where it will play through Sunday, July 7, 2019.

Jackson heads a cast of 19 which also stars Ruth Wilson, Jayne Houdyshell, Elizabeth Marvel, Aisling O'Sullivan, Pedro Pascal, John Douglas Thompson, Sean Carvajal, Russell Harvard, Matthew Maher, Michael Arden, Justin Cunningham, Dion Johnstone, Ian Lassiter, Che Ayende, Therese Barbato, Stephanie Roth Haberle, Daniel Marmion, and John McGinty.

In William Shakespeare's royal-family tragedy, the aging King Lear divides his estate between his three daughters, ultimately refusing his youngest and favorite her share because she won't publicly admit her love for him. The decision leads to chaos and treachery within the kingdom and madness for its monarch.
